Phishing Alert

There is an email going around that is a hoax, unfortunately, the hoax has taken on a slightly new and more specific University approach. They are asking for your UMN email account and password (X500). Do not reply. If you already have replied, change your X500 password right away.

The subject : VERIFY YOUR UMN(or EMAIL) ACCOUNT NOW

The recipients are asked to reply with the following info to prevent having their account closed:
Email Address, EMAIL Password, Date of Birth, & Country or Territory

The University will never ask you for a password through email. Emailing passwords is rarely a good idea. Email is generally sent in the clear over the Internet, where it can be seen by someone with access to the network in all the locations along the way. Think of unencrypted email as a postcard.
