Design with Light: 3M Student Design Competition

Energy consumption and related climate change concerns have led to increased scrutiny related to artificial illumination in buildings. At the same time, new lighting technologies have broadened the scope of possibilities demonstrated by the lighting designer's palette. 3M engineers have developed a wide array of films with advanced light-propagating properties, and these materials could potentially inspire a new generation of energy-efficient lighting sources. With such a future in mind, 3M would like your help defining creative architectural lighting applications using their films and low-energy light sources.

THE CHALLENGE
Design a light fixture that will provide functionality as a task light or feature light. Your design should consider issues related to sustainability, emerging technologies, and socio-behavioral implications.
Creative and unusual solutions will be given priority.

See flyer for details.
