Faculty from the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) are hosting an information session for interior design and architecture students. DIS offers a wide variety of courses taught in English - from architecture and interior design to pre-med and social sciences. DIS is a comprehensive intercultural program where study tours and experiential learning are embedded into the curriculum.

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships for Study Abroad in 2011-12

Learn from Rotary representatives about the world's largest privately
funded scholarship program for international education! Opportunities
are offered for a year of study abroad in nearly 100 host countries.
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars receive a flat grant of $25,000 to support
their studies. May not be used for university-sponsored study abroad
programs. Language proficiency requirements apply to some destinations.
SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, SENIORS, AND GRADUATES may apply. Must be a citizen
of a country with Rotary Clubs. Applicants should have strong academic
records and a commitment to service. Initial application is made through
a Rotary Club in the applicant's hometown or place of current full-time

Internships in Berlin, Germany

The Center for German & European Studies invites applications to the CGES internship fellowship program "USA Goes Berlin."

The program places U of M students in English-language classrooms in elementary schools in Berlin. They serve as English-language resource persons/assistant teachers. Fellows live with their mentor-teachers. One day each week is set aside for guided research activities. It's a perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to experience a professional work culture abroad. Applications are invited from currently enrolled U of M students from across the disciplines. Applicants are NOT required to be pursuing a career in teaching. Proficiency in German is preferred but not essential. 10-12 fellowships are available for 2009. Application deadline: February 9, 2009.

National Student Exchange deadline approaching

The Application deadline for National Student Exchange (NSE) during the 2009-2010 academic year is February 11th, 2009.

The National Student Exchange (NSE) is a domestic parallel to study abroad giving students access to nearly 200 colleges and universities in the US and Canada. Since its inception in 1968, NSE has placed more than 90,000 students on exchange, and roughly 90 University of Minnesota students participate in NSE each year. The Career and Community Learning Center (CCLC) serves as the administrative home for NSE here at the U of M.

Discover the allure of Europe, research opportunities abound! Travel to faraway places with SPAN, the Student Project for Amity among Nations.

SPAN invites you to check out our study abroad programs for Summer 2009! This year, students in the SPAN program will go to Greece, or to any other country in the European Union, to conduct independent research under the supervision of an American professor.

SPAN can be adapted to fit any major and can be used to meet undergraduate or graduate academic requirements. Students earn eight upper-level credits (FSSP 5960, 5970) and often use this project as their senior paper/thesis.

Moreover, this is one of the most affordable study abroad options you'll find, with scholarships available through SPAN and the Learning Abroad Center. Financial aid is also available.

Danish Institute for Study Abroad Info Session

Faculty from the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) are visiting the U of M next week, and there will be an information session geared towards interior design and architecture students.

The DIS program offers excellent opportunities to participate in interior design and architecture coursework in Copenhagen. Experience your field from an international perspective, and gain valuable cross-cultural communication and problem-solving skills.

The DIS application deadline for Spring 2009 is November 1, 2008.

Study Abroad Scholarships

Each year the University of Minnesota distributes approximately $500,000 for study abroad scholarships. The scholarship deadline for Winter Break 2009, Spring Semester 2009, and Calendar Year 2009 is Wednesday, October 22, 2008. The application can be used to apply for the Study Abroad Scholarship, Diversity in Study Abroad Scholarship, and the Access Abroad Scholarship.

Selection of scholarship recipients is not based on financial need or merit, but rather the essays submitted in the application. Currently one-third of all students who apply receive a scholarship. Summer Service Experience in New Orleans

Tulane University's Center for Public Service created the Semester in NOLA Program, a program which seeks students from across the country and around the world who wish to lend their energy to the New Orleans rebuilding efforts. Semester in NOLA is both a service and an academic program. Students will complete an intensive service assignment with New Orleans community partners while participating in an interdisciplinary course taught by Tulane faculty.

Semester in NOLA will provide students the opportunity to reflect on the lessons taught by Katrina and to bring these lessons back to their own community. Students will learn about the rich New Orleans culture and its unique past.
