Career of the Week-- Child Care Workers

Do you love working with children? Do you see yourself owning your own childcare center someday? Check out a career as a Child Care worker. Your options are endless!

WHAT? If you have a passion to work with children and are interested in a rewarding career, click here and check out the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) to learn more about being a Child Care worker. Child Care workers have a variety of duties including providing basic care, teaching duties, caregiving activities, and contact with parents or guardians. You get to take part in a child's development as you assist them in healthy development by helping children grow, learn, and gain new skills. It's so rewarding! The work hours of this career vary greatly. This can be appealing for many especially if you have a family. You may even be able to set your own hours if you own your own childcare center someday.

HOW DO YOU GET THERE? Wondering how to get the most out of this career, better pay, and more opportunities. Check out a degree in CEHD Early Childhood Education. Having a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education will give you the background you need to pursue your dreams as a Child Care Worker. Depending on the environment you are in you may be required to obtain a certificate as well. Be sure to get as many experiences and take part in as many opportunities as you can to set yourself apart from others in the same field. Check out volunteer opportunities as well as conduct informational interviews with others in the field to learn more about the path they took to become a Child Care worker and any tips they have.

WHERE? There are a variety of options in which to carry out a career in Child Care. You could work in your private household, children's homes, in providers' homes, and child care centers, which include Head Start, Early Head Start, full-day and part-day preschool, and other early childhood programs.
