Health Careers Fair and Pre-Health Adviser Summit

Health Careers Fair 2012

Thursday, September 27, 2012
1:00 - 4:00pm
Coffman Great Hall
Minneapolis Campus

• Thinking about a career in a health profession?
• Wondering about the options for education in the medical and health fields?

Come to the fair and learn about the many different academic programs leading to a health professional career. Meet with admissions staff from the different health professional and health-related programs here on campus (and outside the U!) and ask them your questions. Pre-health student groups will also be in attendance! Many University of Minnesota health related programs will be in attendance this year, as they are every year! We have also invited health professional degree programs that are not available at the U of MN (Physicians Assistant, Podiatry, Optometry, etc). A more detailed list of attendees can be found on our website.

Open to all students!

Pre-Health Adviser Summit 2012

As part of the Health Careers Fair activities on Thursday, September 27, join your fellow colleagues and advisers for the "Pre-Health Adviser Summit"!

Thursday, September 27, 2012
President's Room, Coffman Memorial Union
University of Minnesota
Minneapolis Campus
12:00 - 2:50pm

Open to all advisers and career development professionals.

Topics include the following:

1.) The 3-Dimensional Health Profession Applicant
12:00pm - 12:50pm
Students today tend to use a check-list approach when preparing for application to a health profession program. This process tends to produce "check-list" applicants vs. 3-dimensional applicants. Join a discussion about what can we do as a University to help students become 3-dimensional applicants.

2.) Expanding Job Opportunities: The Growing Field of Opportunities in Public Health and Healthcare
1:00pm - 1:50pm
This session will provide information about the ever-expanding career options in health-related fields.

3.) Advising Pre-Health Students Going Abroad: Keeping Them and Patients Safe
2:00pm - 2:50pm
More and more students are interested in going abroad for "clinical experience". More and more opportunities are becoming available for them to participate in potentially dangerous experiences. Hear about strategies to guide students' decision-making as they choose to travel abroad for pre-health experiences and learn more about the Global Ambassadors for Patient Safety online workshop.

*Each session will be 50 minutes in length. Advisors are welcome to select which session(s) they would like to attend. Each session will be held in the President's Room in Coffman Memorial Union.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by completing this UM Survey:
