Another grad position in PsTL
A 25% graduate research assistant (GRA) position is available to assist a faculty member in the Department of Postsecondary Teaching and Learning for Fall 2007/Spring 2008 (August 27, 2007, through May 25, 2008) with research in the area of developmental mathematics.
Salary rate: $16.22 per hour.
Duties include:
- analyzing non-parametric developmental mathematics data collected using SPSS, SAS, and EQS
- knowledge of logistic regression and path analysis with nominal or ordinal data
- reviewing the literature on developmental mathematics performance and attitudes by race, gender, SES, entry-level mathematics courses, and high school preparation
- compiling a bibliographic archive of related materials
- making recommendations for fine-tuning survey form(s) and collection process
- preparing a report of all the statistically significant findings data with a relevant literature review
Qualifications:
Required
- enrollment in a CEHD Graduate School program with a heavy emphasis in statistical data analysis processes and techniques
- an interest in or familiarity with developmental mathematics research
- excellent writing and interpersonal skills
- experience with non-parametric statistical tests
- experience using SPSS, SAS, and EQS
- excellent time management and self-discipline; ability to work independently and to meet timelines
- knowledge of and experience in multivariate statistics with discrete data
Preferred
- familiarity with qualitative research techniques
- excellent background in multivariate statistical techniques and limitations when using discrete data
- experience preparing data for reports and publication
- resume or curriculum vitae
- a cover letter summarizing relevant experience and education related to the required and preferred qualifications
college transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable) - a sample of non-parametric research project output or paper from one’s educational or work experience
