Local nonprofit "searching" for research assistant

Search Institute, a Minneapolis nonprofit dedicated to promoting healthy children, youth, and communities, has an opening for a research assistant.

Position summary:
This position will be responsible for providing research assistance and administrative support for Applied Research and the Center for Spiritual Development in Childhood and Adolescence (CSD) at Search Institute.

Essential job duties:
1. Serve as research assistant

  • Assist in the identification, review, synthesis, and reporting of relevant literature in psychology, sociology, anthropology, religious studies, and other relevant disciplines

  • Assist in the writing of research proposals

  • Assist in the design of research protocols and instruments, data collection methods, and analysis procedures for research studies

  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection

  • Assist in writing project reports for clients and funders and contribute to the writing of scholarly journal articles and other publications

  • Assist in presentation of research findings to external audiences

2. Provide administrative support

  • Maintain the CSD Access database, including data entry, information retrieval, and adding or editing forms

  • Perform data entry and generate reports using Reference Manager, Access, and Excel software

  • Research, summarize, and report on upcoming relevant conferences, staff participation and presentations, and communications outreach

  • Participate in regular research and CSD staff meetings, taking notes and making status reports

  • Assist with a variety of miscellaneous office tasks, including scheduling meetings and travel, correspondence, filing, copying, meeting preparation, contact with vendors, ordering supplies, etc.

3. Assist in Web site content development and maintenance for CSD

  • Assist with content maintenance of the CSD Web site, to include entering resources into the online library, editing existing information, adding new Web pages, and assisting with content development and planning

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the CSD on-site library, to include labeling resources, shelving and re-shelving resources, keeping the library organized and user-friendly for visitors, and tracking library usage

Qualifications/Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree and some applied research experience

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience in online and database information retrieval

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Ability to work on multiple projects with multiple responsibilities and deadlines

  • Periodic travel may be required

Preferred:

  • Coursework in the social sciences, international studies, child development, or theology

  • Commitment to advancing the well-being of children and youth

  • Familiarity with the Search Institute's Developmental Assets Framework

  • Familiarity with Web site maintenance
  • Work experience in a library setting

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access

  • Familiarity with Procite, Reference Manager, and/or NVivo software a plus!

Physical demands/Working conditions:

  • Intermittent physical activity including bending, reaching, and prolonged periods of sitting

  • Intermittent lifting of 25 lbs. or more
