David Weerts, associate professor in the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development (OLPD), went to the White House January 11 for a forum introducing the American Commonwealth Partnership (ACP) as a member of the ACP steering committee. The forum, For Democracy's Future: Education Reclaims Our Civic Mission, was attended by civic education, government, business, and philanthropic leaders. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan called on the group to provide practical civic engagement opportunities for students "from grade school to graduate school." Two reports on students and civic engagement were also released. Weerts codirects the Jandris Center for Innovative Higher Education in CEHD.
