C&I welcomes Finnish visiting scholar Marko Kananen

Kananen.jpgDr. Marko Kananen will be joining the Department of Curriculum and Instruction next year as a visiting scholar to work with Dr. Martha Bigelow on a project exploring transnational networks, social participation, and social identifications of members of Somali communities in Finland and in Minnesota. This project, "Contexts of Diaspora Citizenship," is funded by The Academy of Finland.

Kananen will be the lead researcher in Minnesota and will work with Dr. Päivi Harinen and Dr. Anne-Mari Souto from The University of Eastern Finland, and Dr. Jussi Ronkainen from the University of Applied Sciences in Mikkeli. "We are hopeful that this project will create an intellectual bridge between our institutions and our Somali Diaspora communities," said Bigelow.
