D - the Minnesota Department of Health's highly effective food-borne illness
investigation unit - discovered that jalapenos were the cause of a
nationwide outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul.
This year, Team D was the first to identify Peanut Corporation of America as
the producer of salmonella-tainted peanut butter that recently sickened more
than 677 nationwide.

The MN Department of Human Services (DHS) has announced their summer 2010
Executive Pathways Internship Program offering 12 internships in a number of
programs areas for full time graduate students in a number of 3
professional degree programs, including social work. The deadline for
application is December 11, 2009. Each placement is designed to provide
in-depth learning opportunities in a state government setting. Interns are
appointed as Management Analyst I with a pay rate of $16.41 per hour for up

It provides students the opportunity to speak with representatives from law,
business, education, health sciences and a variety of other graduate and
professional programs. The event will also feature helpful workshops on "How
to Apply" and "Funding Graduate and Professional School." This annual event
is coordinated by the Career and Community Learning Center (cclc@umn.edu;

The Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GAPSA) will be hosting a
four-part training series in partnership with the Center for Democracy and
Citizenship that will allow graduate students to identify issues that affect
them and to address those issues through community organizing. Each session
of the breakfast club will include an interactive discussion followed by
group work and action planning. One session will build upon the next and
participants will be developing different public work skills to apply to a
public issue they care about.
Public Issues may include student visas and international student concerns,
student debt, loans, and tuition, as well as any other ideas or interests
participants may have. Please feel free to attend if you have an interest in
community organizing as well.

Working overseas is an affordable alternative to tourism. There are several benefits, such as learning about the culture, improving your resumé, covering living expenses while traveling, and meeting new people.
BUNAC and USIT are two fo the most flexible programs for obtaining a work visa. Although these programs leave the details up to you, they do provide some assistance in finding a job and housing overseas. BUNAC coers work visas in Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. USIT provides work visas for Ireland.
Most jobs will be servie work, such as in pubs, restaurants, retail, resorts, etc. Finding a job related to your field of study is possible but will require more research, planning, and patience.
