Coyote wanders into Chicago Sub Shop

Summed up By: Rachele Cermak

A curious coyote steped into a Quiznos restaurant around Tuesday afternoon in Chicago's Loop downtown, in search of food and shelter. The shop's door had been propped open because of the warm weather. The one and a half-year-old animal did not hurt anyone. He wanted to look for some of that "mmmm...Toasty!" He found a spot to cool off in a drink cooler.

One employee, Ronneshia Mukes, had jumped on top of the counter. He was confused over why the animal was they and scared of what it might do.

Another employee, Raymundo Zavala, stated this was not in his job description.

Animal Control worker Forest Drake quickly removed the animal. Animal Control is taking the coyote to a vet and then, if he is in good health, will release him in northern Illinois.

AP reports the whole incident lasted about 40 minutes.
The city captures about 10 to 15 coyotes a year, said Anne Kent, director of Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Protect Your Wireless Connection

By: Rachele Cermak

Wireless home networks are becoming more common. So common that in the city a laptop computer user with a wireless internet card could find multiple unprotected connections. Wardriving is a practice where people drive around neighborhoods specifically looking for open connections to hijack and steal information stored on the network.

There are ways to protect yourself whether you're a MAC user or PC with windows.

By opening a new brower window and typing IP address of the EBR/WBR series router, usually something like 192.168.0.1, you're able to view the administrative page which is where the activity log is found. Each router manufacturer has a help site to walk you through the set-up. D-Link's webpage is a good example.

Requiring log-in to your network stops most people from jumping on your connection but firewalls and encrypting data transfers are also precautionary steps people can set-up to further protect the valuble information stored on personal computers.
