E-mail Performance Status Update

Description of Problem

Over the past few days, some e-mail users have been experiencing significant delays in e-mail processing. These performance issues have been limited to the e-mail servers located at the St. Paul BioAgeng data center, and are the result of of disk failure in the e-mail storage array at that location. OIT engineers are working with the vendor to resolve this problem as quickly as possible and restore e-mail service to normal performance. This may take several hours, so some users may continue to experience performance issues throughout today.

Process

In order to mitigate performance problems for all e-mail users, some of the larger active users on the St. Paul servers are being moved to servers at other locations. By moving these users, OIT is able to balance the demand more evenly across all email servers, thus increasing overall performance for all users. OIT will be closely monitoring performance today, and making adjustments as needed to optimize performance.

More Information

Updates to the status of e-mail performance will be posted to the System Status web page.

February 28, 2010: SAS license update deadline

Audience: SAS users
Action: Contact CFANS OIT

If you have updated your SAS license code you can disregard the rest of this message.

For those who have SAS installed and have not taken action yet, your SAS license code will expire after 2/28/2010. Failure to update will cause a disruption in your ability to use this application and will require a full reinstallation of SAS.

Each February, the license code must be updated when the vendor supplies the University with the update or the program will stop functioning. This does not mean you need to purchase a new license - you only need to purchase a new license once a year, and the Software Licensing group at the University will notify you via e-mail when it is time to renew.

Updating SAS License Code

To update the license code, locate the e-mail message you received from the OIT Software License Program (software@umn.edu) and follow the instructions. If you need help with the update, contact CFANS OIT at cfans.help@umn.edu with the following information:

1. A copy of the e-mail you received from software@umn.edu.
2. The nine-digit number of the U of M gold asset sticker CFANS OIT affixes to all CFANS computers.

CFANS OIT will deploy the license code update to you over the network or via Bomgar.

If you did not receive an e-mail message from the Software Licensing group (software@umn.edu) about updating your SAS license code, but you have an installation of SAS that displays a notice that it requires an update, contact the Software License Program at software@umn.edu.

If you have questions about the information contained in this message, contact cfans.help@umn.edu.
