I think you touched on one of the most important parts of decision-making in this blog, uncertainty. Managers cannot effectively make decisions in sport organizations if they are uncertain about them. You mention that non-programmed decisions are made on the fly and uncertainty obviously affects the manager’s ability to make those decisions. Managers must be well prepared to face non-programmed decisions day in and day out. I agree with Yuri, and I think that when Chris brought up the example of Joel Maturi coming in as the new athletic director at the University. This was a very tough position to be in seeing as there were two different departments for men and women with two very different cultures. Joel was a completely new leader and was ultimately shaped by both cultures and was able to successfully merge them together. I agree that defining the culture is important in understanding how an organization operates, but sometimes it is difficult to actually define the culture. Sometimes organizations have multiple cultures, as in one structured spatially. Having branches in multiple geographic regions can create differences in culture in each of those branches. Culture can also change in a vertically organized organization, but I believe you will see a lot less of this than you will with a spatially structured organization....

We see that this can lead to corruption and this year we saw a lot of politicking around the bids for the 2016 Summer Olympics. People gave away gifts to many members of the Olympic Committee to sway them to bring the Winter games to Salt Lake. I think there were some really good points made in this post. I think that the most important part of decision making in any organization is always leadership. As Dustin mentioned, leaders can not show uncertainty. If leaders begin to panic than the entire organization begins to panic.
