Chapter 3 focuses on what goes on in the brain and the biological processes that go on in order for us to think, feel, move, speak, and all other actions we make or do. The first part of the chapter gives us a run down of what is going on in the brain, focusing on neuron communicate with other neurons and what causes them to "fire". (pg. 86) The chapter also looks at chemical communication among the neurons and what roles different neurotransmitters play, such as acetylcoline for muscle contraction. (pg. 89) The chapter includes a tour of the brain's different regions and what functions each part is involved in. The chapter then moves into brief explanations of the limbic system, central nervous system, and peripheral nervous system. I found the last part of the chapter, which focuses on the methods researchers use to map the brain, the most interesting. What I enjoyed the most was learning about the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, which uses changes the electrical fields in the brain that activate or inhibit brain function.(pg. 108) This can show a researcher what parts of the brain are responsible for different actions.
