My definition didn't change this week because I didn't feel as if I needed to add a part about the interactions between offline and online groups. I also felt as if my definition covered enough that adding anything from the "Factors" reading would make my definition too wordy. The online versus offline article was very interesting to me and I took a lot away from it but I feel as if my definition should be as simple as possible.

This is week I changed the wording slightly in the middle of my definition. I did this because the reading this week brought up the idea of intentional change theory and that theory fit exactly what i was trying to say in my definition. A leader must be able to make intentional changes to help them grow was leaders and lead their respect peers to the common goal.

Leaders are able to guide people through adversities, long-term or short-term, using ethical thinking. Leaders must be able to adapt to the world as it changes, and make decisions that bring the greatest advantage to the majority and be able to effectively handle conflicts within their group.

This week I adjusted my definition slightly because the readings talk a lot about being able to adapt to new situations. The readings also brought up an important issue when leading, and that issue is being able to handle conflicts within the group. The changes i made addressed those two major issues because I do believe that leaders need to have those strengths if they want to ring their group to the goal that is intended. I am having trouble though keeping my definition as short as I want it.

My definition didn't change this week because I thought the readings didn't have anything that was worthy of inserting into my definition. The readings had some very important information but I didn't feel as if the information should be inserted into my definition. The "Warren Harding error" is a very important thing to understand but it is not vital enough to put in my definition. If I included all the information in the definition then it would have been too wordy and not as specific as I wanted

This week I slightly altered my definition to fit in looking from an outside perspective. Being able to evaluate a situation from an outsiders perspective or how Heifetz and Linsky put it, from the "balcony." An effective leader should be able to look at a situation from the "balcony" and make decisions based on what they see from an outsiders perspective. Kegan and Lahey's article was about working on a person's "one big" flaw so they can grow as a leader. I believe this is pretty obvious because leaders need to be constantly improving if they want to continue being a leader in all situations.

Leader's are able to guide people through adversities, long-term or short-term, using ethical thinking. Leader's must also be able to create trustworthy relationships and make decisions based on the greater good, not his personal well being.

This week I completely changed my definition of leadership because it was too wordy and not as clear as I was intending it to be. My definition didn't change much because to the readings were reiterating what I already believed. The servant leadership reading was about how leaders need to servants to their peers. A leader must make decisions that helps the greater good and not make decisions on how it will affect him. The part of the social change article that was most interesting to me was how leaders need to address the individual, group, and community when making leadership decisions. Leaders need to make sure their decisions do not effect one group over another group keep everyone happy.

Leadership is being able to set an example and guide people through hardships, and discover solutions for the short term as well as the long term. Leaders should be able to create a trustworthy relationship with all of their peers and guide people through tough choices using ethical thinking and keeping the best interest of their peers in mind.

This week I added a key element the readings was trying to bring to my attention. A leader must be able to solve problems in the short term as well as avoid similar problems in the future. "They must execute in order to meet today's challenges. And they must adapt what and how things get done in order to thrive in tomorrow's world" (Heifetz, 2009). To be an effective leader in the world today, you must2 create successful solutions in the "now" and also keep in mind of the world is going to operate int eh future. To be able to thrive in the future you must also be successful in the present.

My definition changed slightly this week because the weekly readings made my definition a little more specific. Leaders must be able to think ethically the whole time and not let their personal biases cloud their thought processes when making decisions for the group that individual is leading. I also included the idea of "tough problems" which as defined by Kidder "are those that pit one "right" value against another" (Kidder, 2003). Leaders need to be able to make these tough choices for the group.

Leadership is being able to set an example for people and guide people through hardships. Leaders should be able to create a trustworthy relationship with all of their peers and be able to adapt their personal visions into leadership visions so they can effectively lead people through different situations.

My definition changed this week to include a leaders personal vision because a leader must to genuine to their core values if they want to effectively lead. "You probably can be an "OK" manager simply by learning and practicing good techniques, but outstanding managers bring authenticity to the job. (Lee, R. J., & King, S. N., 2001) What Lee and King are saying is that to be an effective leader you must apply your personal beliefs to the job for people to fully believe in you. A person can be an alright leader if they don't apply their beliefs, but if that person wanted to be a great leader then they must apply their core values to the situation and create a plan that they personal believe in. The best leaders don't follow a generic plan but add their own zest to their leadership plan and create an environment that they believe in and trust in. I enjoyed the other article because it was saying something I had already believe, that leaders don't follow a certain path to leadership but rather take their own route to become the effective leader that they are.
