In the news article, Georgia schools lay unequal foundations for college, the reporters had a specific point they wanted to convey to the audience. Their aim of the story was to show the education gap between high schools in Georgia. They decided to do this by comparing the schools through performance of students, advanced placement programs, the amount of money spent on each child and the economic status of the students. The reporters provided causation between poor student performance in colleges and poor educational standards of their high schools.

The reporters didn't use any interactive graphics. However they did use bullet points to compare and contrast information between schools. I thought that this was helpful because it simplified the percentages and what they stood for, for the reader.

Some computer skills that the reporters had to use included research online. Finding statistics and analysts who have reviewed the situation and their opinions.

Ghana's president won re-election on Sunday, however some doubt its legitimacy.

President John Dramani Mahama won re-election, however the opposition party New Patriotic Party claims the election was fraudulent. Machines using fingerprint technology to identify voters malfunctioned and officials were forced to extend voting to the next day.Also the late arrival of voting materials left voters standing in line for over 12 hours.

Opponent and leader of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo lost the election 47.7 percent to 50.7 percent (BBC).

"Considering the closeness of the polls this error is very significant and goes to the heart of the credibility of the results," said Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, chairman of the opposition party (USA Today).

Protesters took to the streets on Sunday asking the government withhold the results of the election until after the election audit was completed. Police tear gassed and stunned the them, until they dispersed.

International observers, however, endorse the election calling it free and fair.

Two students allegedly gave their unsuspecting classmates and professor pot brownies at the University of Colorado.

Police responded to phone calls of dizziness, anxiety attacks and unconsciousness hours after the class ended. It was discovered that Thomas Cunningham, 21, and Mary Essa, 19, brought in marijuana laced brownies to "Bring Food to Class Day" and shared them with the class (NBC).

Three victims were hospitalized, police say.

Cunningham and Essa were arrested and charged with second-degree assault, inducing consumption of controlled substances by fraudulent means, conspiracy to commit second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit inducing consumption of controlled substances by fraudulent means, today (San Francisco Chronicle).

Cunningham and Essa were questioned by police on Saturday and confessed the brownies were laced with marijuana.

Vietnam disbanded Anti-China protests in two major cities today (BBC).

In Hanoi, the second largest city in Vietnam, police stopped a protest, that was approved by the government, after 30 minutes. They allegedly took 20 out of the 200 protesters onto a bus and drove them away for questioning. They were later released.

Many protesters held up signs saying "China's military expansion threatens world peace and security" and yelled "Down with China."

Another protest broke out in Vietnam's capital Ho Chi Minh City, comprised of 100 people. It lasted 10 minutes before being disbanded said blogger Huynh Chenh.

China recently made a new passport which illustrates islands in the South China Sea as apart of China. Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan dispute this claim. Vietnam refuses to stamp passports like this and will instead issue a visa on a piece of paper (Daily News Online).

China also allegedly sabotaged one of Vietnam's seismic survey vessels in the South China Sea. The government issued a list of violations in the sea to Beijing.

A 4-year-old boy accidently shot and killed his brother on Wednesday.

Neegnco Xiong, 2, died after his brother shot him. The brother found a gun loaded gun between the mattress and headboard and discharged it before he fired it (Kare 11)

The children's father Lue Xiong plead guilty to negligent storage of a loaded firearm within access of a child. Xiong will likely have to perform community service related to gun safety said Dennis Gerhardstein, a spokesman for the Ramsey County attorney's office. Xiong's sentence will be determined Dec. 13 (StarTribune)

It is a crime, in Minnesota, to store a loaded gun within reach of a child.

Xiong has a conceal-and-carry permit and many other guns used for hunting.

The Eden Prairie School District announced it will invest in Macbook Airs and Ipads for schoolchildren (Eden Prairie School District).

Superintendent Curt Tryggestad and other district administrators announced on Nov. 27 the details of the i- Learn@EP Roll-Out Plan. It includes distributing iPads to students in seventh and eighth graders this January or Feburary; Macbook Airs to students in grades ninth-12; and finally distributing similar devices to students in early childhood programs - sixth grade in 2014-2016.

This $1.5 million per year plan is going to be funded by the textbook budget and technology levy the district said (StarTribune)

The plan was finalized after a series of parent engagement sessions in October and November and after an online survey was posted on the district's website.

"We are at an exciting stage in our district and are ready to get the digital devices in the hands of students," said Tryggestad. "The use of these devices by students and teachers can transform the learning process in significant ways.

A bus drove into an overpass and killed two people at the Miami Airport in Fla.

The bus drove into an overpass that only allowed clearance for vehicles under 8 feet and 6 inches. There were signs clearly marking that those vehicles under the limit must turn left, however the driver of the bus was unfamiliar with the area and lost (Herald Online).

Three passengers are in critical condition and the remaining 27 all had minor injuries. The majority of the injuries were facial because of the frontal impact, said Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta (ABC News).

The 32 passengers were apart of a Jehovah's Witness group heading to West Palm Beach, Fla for a convention.

In the article, "Democratic convention: Bill Clinton makes speech that Obama needed most" talks about Bill Clinton's speech the the Democratic National Convention (DNC) (The Guardian).

The reporter in this story chose to elaborate on Bill Clinton's strategy in the speech, which was not necessarily praising Obama, but saying that Obama is leading America on the hard road to recovering from the issues prevalent before his tenure. By doing this, the reporter helps the reader understand what made Bill Clinton's speech so great.

The reporter also brings up how Clinton connects with the audience and why the audience responded well to Clinton. How the issues that Clinton spoke about connected with each member of the audience and that Clinton himself evokes a sense of prosperity and therefore instills hope in the audience.

Jesse Jackson, a Representative in the House for a district in Illinois, resigned on Nov. 21 due to medical issues (Chicago Tribune).

Jackson was under investigation after he had perhaps inappropriately spent money earned during his tenure. Some of these expenditures include buying a $400,000 Rolex watch for a "female friend" and his furniture in his Washington D.C. home. The investigation was ran under the F.B.I's Washington Field House.

Jackson then left Congress due to medical purposes in June, in August said he being treated for bipolar disorder and then announced he is resigning in November.

The resignation could cost Illinois $5.15 million said the state board. This is due to elections having to be set up in the area. The Illinois primaries are on Feb. 26, but the earliest the district could have its primaries are in March (ABC News).
