Yesterday I had two sessions, both 3.5 year old boys.

The first child was really fun to work with. He did amazing on DCCS - almost passed advanced border! He also did really well on PPVT - which can be a problem with that age because they get bored. What was interesting is that in delay of choice, he seemed to make his decision differently than most children. Seems like most kids just can't resist the treats so they choose now. But he seemed to think it through more, he was saying "yumm I'm hungry" and a couple times he would go "this time I'll take 6 later so I can have them later." He seemed in control, but not enough to realize that having more treats later would be a more economic decision.

My second participant was completely noncompliant. He stared at me angrily for a long time and wouldn't even do false belief. I tried to build rapport in the waiting room, but this led to him just wanting to play with cars. I even let him bring the cars into the testing room but he still would not play the games. I told the mom that I would use the questionnaires and not to worry about it, but it was still a very frustrating experience since I need the data!

I had a session scheduled today, but they called to reschedule this morning. This gave me time to enter data and run some analyses.

I found it interesting that as I was entering data on the DCFSav and DCF-Ctrl for my questionnaire, the parents of 3.5 year olds answered "yes" to "My child must remember this without a reminder" much more often than I'd expected. I wonder if maybe when parents begin to enforce a rule, they start with high expectations and maybe later lower them. This was especially interesting because there is a huge difference between 6 and 4 year olds' parents on that question.

I will have a few less hours this week because next week and the week after I have sessions scheduled - will make up the hours then!

I mostly got voicemails and a couple of parents that were not interested or wanted to be removed from the pool. I know there is not really a way to force people to stay on the list but are there ways that we can encourage them to stay on the list and participate? It's hard with children because of crazy schedules, but I think it's important to try to get these families to come in! I also helped Cathy grab drinks from CVS for MJ's thesis defense today!

Today I spent the first part of my time watching EMR videos to figure out how long children waited before they gave up on trying to unlock the clear box! For the rest of my time I called families in order to recruit them for the Psych Distancing EMR task! I was able to recruit 4 families and left voicemails for many more. I sent out packets to the families I got scheduled. Hopefully parents call back and get sessions set up! I don't think I'm going to be able to test before the summer but I want to stick around and see if I can start running the EMR task! I think it would be interesting to see the various ways in which the children respond or behave during the Frustration Task.
