Coming into my own geekness

As tempting as it would be to complain yet again about how hot it is in Minneapolis these days, I won't. Someone pointed out to me recently that I should really change the name of the blog to reflect that it's hot outside (although winter is not far behind). However, my answer to that is that the title is meant as a metaphor, not a statement of fact.

Anyway, I haven't updated this blog much lately, and I wish I could say it was because I have been working so hard on the next stage of my dissertation process. Alas, that is not the case. In fact, I've hardly even thought about my dissertation the last couple weeks.

If I haven't been shuffling my child from Spanish class to his childcare center (yes, he's almost 4 and taking Spanish--he told us he wants to be bilingual, so we HAD to do something), I'm busy working this summer. It's fun work--check out the blog that is the ongoing result of my efforts. I've also been learning a few things about web design as part of the process. The web has been demystified, as John, my web tutor, tells me. And Shane has officially welcomed me into the world of geeks! I've arrived! I think I'm going to run out of excuses for not getting to my dissertation...

One never runs out of excuses to procrastinate on the diss. In a way, though, that is a perk: you've got a bit of freedom to decide when to work and when to play!

Love the new blog! Don't worry so much about the procrastination--the skills you are gaining as a result will serve you well once you finish and start the job search process.

There could be many types of procrastination but I think this one isn't that bad. You may have learned and accomplished something for procrastinating over your other task and that is good. But still, we must finish first what we have started before starting another one. Well, we can separate our time for both tasks if we want. It's just that procrastination is not that healthy. :)

One way to avoid procrastination is to not tolerate it. Because it becomes a habit. You may want to know the procrastination psychology so that you'll have a clearer picture of it.

When you procrastinate over something, you must be prepared for its outcome thought its not really pleasing. It is still best not to procrastinate. Just think of the free time you'll have after you finish your task. That would be more worth spending for.

Wow! Your child was impressive. As young as four years old already working on improving his communication skills. That was good for him. Communication skills must really be developed while they're young.

Having good communication skills will help them deal with people more easily and could increase their confidence as well. It was good that you supported his interest on being a bilingual.
