Let the Sock Knitting Begin!

I'm leaving for a quick trip to Baltimore tomorrow--work related--and I better not forget to pack some sock knitting. It won't be knitting for my sock pal, though. I haven't entirely decided what kind of socks to make. I'm actually thinking of designing some anime socks, but I'm a little worried. I'm thinking of some plain ol' stockinette style socks with a little animal face on the side. Kinda funky, anime-style.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe it's too risky. I know I for one would be disappointed if I was hoping for some Jaywalkers in STR and ended up with some bright green socks with a bunny on the side (actually, I don't think I really WOULD be disappointed--I don't think it's possible I could be disappointed by socks). But, I want to try to make the anime socks anyway, even if not for Sockapalooza.4.

Can I make two pairs of socks before August? Maybe I'll have to find out.

Regarding your anime sock question: personally, I would be thrilled to have exciting handknit socks like anime socks.

What did your pal list in her preferences? Does she seem like an adventurous person on her blog? I mean, if her blog is antique roses and she said that she'd like vintage calf-high socks I wouldn't knit her anime stuff. BUT if she wants "colorful socks" and her favorite TV show is Futurama, I'd totally go for it.

Hope this is helpful.

The only things I can imagine being disappointed by in Sockapalooza land is either not receiving socks or getting socks so grossly missized that you cannot wear them (either direction, though smaller so that you cannot even rip the yarn and make a pair that fit you is probably worse).

Last 'palooza I made a pair of socks, which funnily enough were a lot like the socks she sent out, but the ones I made were a little too long in the toe. A simple fix and she was happy with them.

That would be soooo cool to see! If you think your pal is up for it - go for it!

I think if you have fun and put thought into your creation, your pal will love it.

GO FOR IT!

if you were knitting for me, i'd be psyched...see if you can find out a little bit about your sock pal and what kind of character they might like...

I'd be thrilled with those sorts of socks!
Unless your pal doesn't seem like they'd like that sort of thing, I'd go for it. I know I'd be happy!
Good luck :-)

I think the anime socks sound like a terrific idea. I'll bet nobody else is knitting anything even vaguely like that.

I guess I'm one of the few who would be just a little dissapointed. It sounds like you have a great idea, though. Maybe make them for you?

That sounds soooo cool! If you think it fits the person you are knitting for, go for it! I'm saying I love anything but lace socks, norway is cold! Anime is cool!
