Novelist Denis Johnson will give the 23rd Esther Freier Endowed Lecture at 7:30 pm, April 11, 2012, at Coffman Union Theater.
Denis Johnson is the author of Tree of Smoke, a 2007 novel about the Vietnam War, which won the National Book Award. He wrote the cult favorite short story collection Jesus' Son; a movie of the book, starring Billy Crudup, was named one of the top ten films of 1999 by the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Roger Ebert. Among his other novels are Angels and Train Dreams. He is also a playwright and a poet.
