Annual Review of Z-term Appointees

We acknowledge that conducting annual performance reviews of Z-term appointees is a new process for CLA this year and are extending the deadline for submitting these reviews.  Please submit Z-term reviews to the college by April 30, 2010.  If you are looking for guidance or assistance on handling reviews for Z-term appointees, please feel free to contact your Human Resources Representative;

Dean James A. Parente, Jr. invites you to join in celebrating the 2010 Dean's Medalist and the 2010-13 Scholars of the College. Monday, February 22, program at 3:30 p.m. in the Mississippi Room (3rd floor, Coffman Memorial Union) with reception following. 

On February 1st, 2010, an automatic email was sent to all individuals required to file an annual REPA for the reporting period from August 26th, 2008 to December 31, 2009.

All University professional and academic staff are required to complete a REPA form annually, whether or not you have any outside consulting to report. The final deadline for filing this form is March 8, 2010

Note: The filing requirements will not include changes proposed in the Individual Conflicts

Arthur "Red" Motley Exemplary Teaching Award

The College invites nominations for this year's CLA "Red" Motley teaching award. Faculty members must be nominated by at least five CLA undergraduate and/or graduate students.

A description of the award, nomination form, and dossier cover sheet may be downloaded (all are pdfs) on the CLA website at http://cla.umn.edu/intranet/undergrad/motley0910.php or obtained from the CLA Undergraduate Programs Office, 113 Johnston Hall, (612) 624-8675.

Nomination Forms are due in 113 Johnston Hall on Friday, February 26, 2010. The Undergraduate Programs Office will contact the home department of each nominated faculty member and will provide guidelines for preparing a complete nomination dossier. The department prepares the nomination dossier for the faculty member.

Dossiers are due in 113 Johnston Hall on Friday, April 2, 2010. Departments are asked to submit the original plus 9 copies.

The CLA Instructional Awards Committee will review the dossiers and make a recommendation to the Dean. If you need further information, please contact Barbara Schwab at 612-624-8675 or schwa133@umn.edu.

Faculty - 2010 Annual Review Submission Deadlines

Appraisals of Probationary Faculty - 26 February 2010
Submit completed Appraisals of Probationary Faculty (Form 12s) and any attachments in hard copy to the Office of the Associate Dean for Faculty, 212 Johnston Hall, no later than the due date.  Faculty activity reports and curricula vitae do not need to be submitted with the form 12s; they will be submitted as part of the annual review of faculty (see below).  A copy of the Form 12 will be returned to the unit when fully executed. Information about annual appraisals of probationary faculty may be found on the CLA Faculty website, along with links to the governing documents and forms.

Annual Review of Faculty Performance
Faculty Activity Reports and Curricula Vitae - 26 February 2010
Faculty activity reports and curricula vitae must be submitted electronically, on the "projects" drive, in the "2009-2010" folder. Faculty activity reports and curricula vitae should be submitted as separate files; pdf only. Please label each pdf file with the faculty member's last name and appropriate descriptor (FAR or CV). Contact Gayle Gabrielski (gabr0074@umn.edu) with questions.

Unit Merit Evaluation of Faculty (narrative report) - 12 March 2010
Submit unit merit evaluation on the projects-drive, in the "2009-2010" folder, labeled "Unit merit evaluation."

Annual Review of Chairs/Directors - 26 March 2010
Chairs/Directors materials include: self-evaluation, unit evaluation of Chair/Director, faculty activity reports, and curricula vitae.  Submit all documents electronically, on the "projects" drive as separate pdf files, in the "2009-2010" folder.  Please label each pdf file with the Chair's/Director's last name and appropriate descriptor (self eval, unit eval, FAR, CV).  Contact Gayle Gabrielski with questions.

P&A Annual Review Materials - 26 February 2010

Annual review materials for P&A performance are due to the college on February 26, 2010.  

In accordance with the Administrative Policy on Performance Reviews for Academic Professional and Administrative Employees, conducting annual reviews of all P&A employees is a requirement. 

Required P&A annual materials include:

  • Written description of unit's review guidelines/process
  • Employee annual performance summary report
  • Supervisor written evaluation of employee
  • Employee response (if applicable)

Changes effective this year (2009/10)
  • All P&A annual review materials must be submitted electronically via the CLA projects drive.  Additional submission instructions will be forthcoming.
  • Annual reviews must be conducted for all P&A (93xx, 97xx) employees, regardless of percent-time or term of appointment.  Excluded are academic appointments that are (1) "Without Salary" appointments and (2) graduate assistants (select 95xx) or professionals-in-training (select 95xx).  

Changes effective next year (2010/11)
  • Effective academic year 2010/11, the review period corresponding to the annual review of P&A performance will be standardized across the college to cover the previous calendar year (calendar year 2010).  The annual review of P&A employees during spring semester 2011 will cover a review period of January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010 for all units.

P&A Promotions

P&A promotion dossiers for cases being considered during the 2009/10 academic year are due no later than Monday, March 1, 2010.  

Information regarding the 2009/10 P&A promotion process in CLA and links to relevant University governing documents and collegiate guidelines are available on the HR web page.
