CRP Task Force

The Computer Replacement Program (CRP) is in need of rethinking and improvement, so CLA-OIT is establishing a task force to examine the program from top to bottom. The project objective is to improve the process to allow for advanced planning, better budgeting, and a better customer experience. To accomplish this, we are looking for a few volunteers to represent the interests of CLA's departments and administrative units. The team is expected to meet regularly over the summer and produce process, policy, and other recommendations by the end of July. If interested, please inform Jamey Hansen.

Google Migration Team

CLA-OIT is looking for a volunteer to join the Google Apps Migration project team. We want someone to represent an organizational and end user perspective on the planning team--no technical expertise necessary. Together with the other members of the team (Jamey Hansen, Karen Swoverland, Jen Mein, and Kevin Smith) this person will help oversee the efforts of the pilot, technical migration, and training sub-projects. The team will meet regularly between now and the end of the initial migration phase in July. If interested, please inform Karen Swoverland (karenb@umn.edu).

Reminder: May 19 Voluntary Form Deadline

Per the attached memo that was sent out May 7th, please submit unsigned voluntary forms and its accompanying information to CLA HR (clahr@umn.edu) by Wednesday, May 19.  If you have any questions, please contact your HR Consultant, Wendy Lane (lanex025@umn.edu,               625-8484) or Margaret Yzaguirre (mmy@umn.edu, 626-9352).  Thank you.

CLA NOW Meeting

The May CLA NOW meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, May 13 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. in the Minnesota Population Center Seminar Room (50 Willey Hall)

This month we invite you to come EARLY for treats & socializing before the meeting!  As you already know, the Intersections Project won a yellow ribbon at the 2010 Quality Fair.  The prize money was used for a celebration for the project group but with the leftover funds we thought we would provide an express breakfast for you!  It's our way of thanking you for testing the system and providing valuable feedback to make the system a success.  We will have the room open at 8:30 a.m. for you to enjoy donuts, fruit, coffee, milk, juice and conversation before our meeting starts.  We will start the CLA NOW meeting promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Window AC Units

Window air conditioners will be removed from Folwell Hall when renovation begins later this month. Many of these units are less than five years old. If your building has window air conditioners, Facilities Management has offered to assess feasibility of replacing aging units with one of the newer units from Folwell. Contact Scott Elton in CLA Planning (elton003@umn.edu; 6-0950) by May 17 if you would like more information.

PULSE Survey

Thanks to all who have completed the University's 2010 Pulse survey. CLA's response rate is pretty good, but could be better.  An improved response rate for CLA would provide stronger, more meaningful data for us and the University. As you  know, VP Carol Carrier has sent several emails to the University community encouraging participation.  As we enter into the final two days of the survey, we ask for your help in encouraging faculty and staff in your unit to participate.  The deadline for the completing the survey is Friday, May 14. Thank you.

TIP Deadline: May 13

This is a reminder that the UM Foundation invoicing deadline for June TIP is May 13 at noon. Department of Theatre Arts & Dance Receives CAPA Award

The Council of Academic Professionals and Administrators (CAPA) has selected
the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, part of the College of Liberal
Arts (CLA), as recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Unit Award. CAPA presents
this award each year to a unit that it judges to be exemplary in its support
of P&A staff and the critical role P&A employees fulfill in supporting the
University's mission.

According to CAPA, the application of Theatre Arts and Dance stood out for several
reasons, including the impact P&As have on the department, the relative equality that
P&As have with faculty, the opportunities P&As have to participate in
University, college, and departmental governance, the P&A merit review
process, and the professional leave opportunities afforded P&As.
