CLA Administrators

Attached are the materials that chairs, directors and faculty have received regarding graduate assistants filing cards for a union election. We look to you to play an important role with your chair/director in ensuring that the Maintenance of Status Quo Order is posted, that roles and responsibilities are understood during this period, and that you are a point of contact for questions to the college on this matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your CLA HR Consultant (Wendy; lanex025@umn.edu or Margaret; mmy@umn.edu) or Associate Dean Alex Rothman (rothm001@umn.edu). Thank you, CLA Human Resources

Intersections Reminder - Review Full-Year Appointments

This message is a friendly reminder for those units who opted to appoint grad students in Intersections for the full year. Please make sure to utilize the reports in Intersections-Hiring to make a mid year check to insure that your grad hires are correct for spring semester.

Instructions:
  • Go to: intersections.umn.edu
  • Click on "Hire a Grad" or "Hire an Undergrad"
  • Select the reports option under "hiring home"
  • Select a report from the drop down menu. A helpful report is the "Grad Job Offers with Position Details and Account Strings"
  • Select an academic term (or a report start and end date)
  • Click on "Generate Report"

Please note that changes and appointments outside of intersections (paper documents) will not be reflected in this report. If you have made amendments to job offers, you'll want to also run the report "Grad Job Offer Amendments."
The Administrative Policy: Paid Medical Leave and Disability Benefits for Faculty and Academic Professional and Administrative Employees has been revised. The purpose of this revision is to reflect the change in the University disability vendor. All references to The Standard have been replaced with generic disability vendor language that links to the Employee Benefits web site that contains specific information about the new vendor, Cigna. The change in vendor occurs January 1, 2012. Be sure to destroy any documents/materials referring to The Standard that you may have in print form.

In addition to this change, language has been added or edited for understanding and clarification of some current procedures/practices. Two new Q&A's have also been added. Additional information and instructions for completing a claim can be found at the link below. Please contact your CLA HR Consultant when a medical issue has arisen for any member of your department.

Class Lists

CLA Payroll staff are working diligently to enter spring appointments for returning instructors and assistants by the first day of classes to ensure that these employees will be able to access their class rosters. In the case that units need to submit late appointments, we wanted to make you aware of an alternative way to access these class rosters.

Go to: www.umreports.umn.edu.
Type "class list" in search reports field.
Select either "Class List" or "Class List by Subject - PDF Format."
Follow the prompts to arrive at the course that you need a roster for.

Administrators and support staff in units should be able to access these lists.

Google Migration Update

Central OIT is still working towards creating new U of M Internet accounts directly in Google. They hope to have this in place by the end of March.

In the meantime, all new employees will need to migrate from Gophermail to Gmail:

The CLA Technology Grant Committee is now accepting applications with a deadline of Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

Full descriptions of the three types of grants can be found in CLA-OIT's Service Catalog:

We even provide an administrative service to facilitate the process.

If you're not sure if you should apply for a grant, contact us through the CLA Service Desk (4-4357 or 4help@umn.edu) and tell us what you have in mind. We'll connect you with a Technology Administrator, Instructional Technology Fellow, or other expert for an individual conversation about any opportunities or challenges you would like to address.
