Arthur "Red" Motley Exemplary Teaching Award

The College invites nominations for this year's CLA "Red" Motley teaching award. Faculty members must be nominated by at least five CLA undergraduate and/or graduate students.

A description of the award, nomination form, and dossier cover sheet may be downloaded (all are PDFs) on the CLA website at http://cla.umn.edu/intranet/undergrad/motley1011.php or obtained from the CLA Undergraduate Programs Office, 115 Johnston Hall, (612) 624-8675.

Nomination Forms are due in 115 Johnston Hall by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012. The Undergraduate Programs Office will contact the home department of each nominated faculty member and will provide guidelines for preparing a complete nomination dossier. The department prepares the nomination dossier for the faculty member.

Dossiers are due in 115 Johnston Hall on Friday, April 6, 2012. Departments are asked to submit the original plus 9 copies.

The CLA Instructional Awards Committee will review the dossiers and make a recommendation to the Dean. If you need further information, please contact Barbara Schwab at 612-624-8675 or schwa133@umn.edu.

Request for Volunteers

Mark your calendars! The 9th Annual CLA Open House is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2012.

Open House is CLA's largest recruitment event of the year. It's an opportunity to invite admitted students and their families to celebrate their admission to the college, and sample the excitement that awaits them in CLA. The goal of the event is to encourage undecided students to confirm their enrollment and to reaffirm already-decided students.

We need your help! Staff volunteers play a vital role in making CLA's Open House successful. Choose to volunteer for the A.M. session, P.M. session, or all day.

Technology Grant Update

The Technology Grant Committee has completed the review of proposals for Small Grants, Instructional Equipment Grants, and Tools for Discovery Grants and presented funding recommendations to the College. Decision letters will be distributed soon.

Redesigned CLA Intranet Launches Tomorrow

The redesigned CLA intranet will feature a larger font size and a wider layout that matches the main CLA website. The content on the intranet is largely unchanged with the exception of units that worked with the CLA Web Team to update their sections.

All editing access has been frozen while we carefully copy over the content from the current intranet. Website contributors will regain editing access in the new design as early as Friday.

IT Outage

There will be a widespread information technology service outage beginning Saturday, March 3, 6 p.m., and lasting until Sunday, March 4, 6 p.m. During this time, you will be unable to access the U's PeopleSoft systems and associated web applications, such as OneStop self-service applications (pay statement, direct deposit, benefits summary, etc.). The outage is part of an Office of Information Technology software and hardware upgrade for the Oracle databases that support PeopleSoft. For more information, see IT service outage.
