Background Check Language in Requisitions:
All non-student job requisition templates in the Employment System now include the following language in the "Applications Instructions" text field:
"Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. Our presumption is that prospective employees are eligible to work here. Criminal convictions do not automatically disqualify finalists from employment."
Per OHR, this background check language should be kept in all non-student job postings.
Graduate Fellows Do Not Automatically Require a Background Check:
After further discussion with OHR, CLA HR has confirmed that Graduate Fellows do NOT require a background check. However, they are subject to the Safety of Minors policy and any contractual provisions. Please see below for clarification:
Graduate Fellows (job codes 9561 and 9566) are NOT covered by the policy and would not need to have a background check. Non-employee positions, such as graduate fellows, are not covered by the policy unless a background check is required under the law, a contract (such as a research grant), or the Safety of Minors administrative policy.
Employee Start Date & Background Check Results:
The question pertaining to whether or not a new hire can start employment prior to background check results being received is currently being researched. Please stay tuned for more updates.
