Employment Opportunity: Web Developer

I am pleased to share with you that CLA Office of Communication has posted an opening for a web developer. This is a major step in our multi-year process of migrating our college sites to Drupal and improving the experience for people who visit our sites.

Please share this opening with your networks. The direct link to the description and application information is employment.umn.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=115594.

Also, an RFP has been issued to firms that specialize in content strategy and information architecture for web sites. Our office is seeking a partner who will help us strategize the best way to deliver the information our web visitors are seeking.

We will continue to keep you informed as these aspects of our web "remodel" progress. Meanwhile, as always, there are steps that you can take to prepare for the migration that is coming in the next 6 to 12 months:
  1. Review your content for ROT: items that are Redundant, Outdated, or Trivial
  2. Fix broken links, and contact webhelp@umn.edu for any problems on your site that you cannot reach via Contribute

CLA Web Migration Update

Representatives from Palantir, the company that will be building the Drupal platform for the University, were in town on September 5 to meet with stakeholders. Members of CLA's Media and PR team attended the meeting and we shared some big ideas and some very detailed needs. We are very excited to work with Palantir and we feel that our collegiate needs will be met.

We'll be watching closely to see how proposed timelines for the Drupal installation and migration launch hold up. Meanwhile, in your units, there are a few things you can continue to do:

  1. Maintain your content! Whether via Contribute or UThink blog feed, someone in your department should have access to keep your website fresh and timely.
  2. Review what's already there. Remove content ROT (Redundant, Outdated, or Trivial). Fix broken links. If you see a problem that you can't get to with your access, send a request to 4help@umn.edu.
  3. Do you have course content on your site? If so, please be in touch with Celina Byers from CLA-OIT's Technology-Enhanced Learning team (cbyers@umn.edu or 612-626-3896) to talk about where this content should live.
We will continue to keep you posted about developments and progress as we have them.

Thank you!

CLA Newsletter Poll

CLA Media and PR is planning a new internal newsletter for all CLA faculty, staff, and grad students. A launch is anticipated for this summer, and contents will include college news, hires and retirements, awards, and other good news. The three primary goals of the newsletter are to:

  1. Build community; foster a culture of openness; celebrate success
  2. Tell reader where CLA is going and why, what the big picture is
  3. Provide information

As an early step, we are asking CLA NOW members to share their thoughts on the name of the newsletter. By taking our poll you can help Media and PR name the newsletter. Thanks for your participation.
