  • Fund Type: Fellowship. Residential: Yes. Eligibility: Unrestricted/Multiple Eligibility; Designed to strengthen academic ties with Japan studies programmes in the United States and Canada, the Institute offers two fellowships on an annual basis to scholars who have either received a PhD from a North American university, or who are currently employed by a North American academic institution or museum. Any area of Japanese culture is eligible, though preference will be given to applications focusing on the history of art, archaeology or architecture, or research with a strong visual component.
  • Award: The award for a full year will total 23,500 pounds sterling (approx. USD $40,000)
