Are you born with it?

Intelligence, are we born with it? Or is intelligence acquired? Looking at IQ scores over the last 75-100 years there is a very noticeable upward trend. Which would leave one to assume nurture has proved to be a stronger impact on one's intelligence. Because during this time frame, eduction has come to the fore-front and became a very important factor in todays society. Looking deeper you can look at the economic factor, and the lower test scores in areas that don't generate as much income, and there0fore have a lesser education system compared to wealthier areas. This could also be a factor of nature, but there are cases of students who have the potential to be very intelligent, but don't have the means to achieve it.

But could it be nature that changed the IQ scores?

I think this is a very interesting topic to bring up, especially since there is some skepticism with the IQ test. I would also assume that nurture has more of an affect on IQ tests in regards to the environment in which people are brought up in and what benefits individuals have access to. Education has become more and more traditional and put more emphasis on test taking skills and could affect how an individual approaches taking such a test. Although it is not on a specific topic, perhaps that affects and could help an individual? I think it is worth looking more into and seeing the different opinions of the IQ test.

It's a good topic. I am completely against standardized tests, IQ tests and all that stuff. This tests show good results for specific abilities, but you cannot judge the human intelligence as a whole based on this tests.
I personally know people who specifically practiced for SAT tests and TOEFL tests, and they scored very high but they are not as smart as someone might think when looking at their scores.

From personal experiences I have noticed that, to an extent, the argument could go both ways. For example, I know people that never tried in school or on standardized tests but were able to get near perfect scores and have very high GPA's. At the same time there are kids that try extremely hard in school yet are unable to get any sort of good grades. A good education can definitely take you far but there is a point where natural intelligence is able to take over.
