This past week at a mall in Florida a riot in Florida was started over the release of a new and exclusive pair of Nike's. If there is one thing that Nike is known for it may be their iconic swoosh or maybe their famous trademark slogan "Just Do It". Both of these things however, represent something more that Nike has been able to do. Their marketing campaign's ability to associate ideas with their products has risen beyond most other company's power over consumers. Nike has proven that they have the ability to associate their name with not only sports greatest athletes but also moments in time since the company's inception. Athletes like Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson and Ken Griffey Jr. were the greatest in the world that represented everything that Nike has come to stand for, things like success and confidence. Sports can elicit some of the most powerful emotions and Nike has taken advantage of these emotions and has created equally powerful commercials. Since its inception over 30 years ago, Nike has applied the psychological concepts that we talked about in class and used that knowledge to their advantage better than any other company in their field.

It’s true, most of the popular and well-known companies are based on the company’s ability to market themselves and establish their name; their ability to manipulate our emotions is what makes them so successful. I think just about everybody is able to recognize the Nike swoosh of their trademark “just do it” slogan. Companies like Nike, Apple, and Victoria’s Secret have established a lifestyle and image that can only be achieved by purchasing their products. Consumers usually by into advertising and that’s probably why advertising is a billion dollar industry.
True. The slogan of Nike is short but powerful. It is smart for them to relate that sort of belief with their product, which seems to say just buy it! Classical conditioning is what every ad tries to use. The powerful emotion that is elicited by the sports could be one of the reasons why so many people like it.
