<p>The Digital Media Center writes faculty profiles and feature stories that focus on how instructors use educational technologies. Relevant articles include:</p>

<p><a href="http://dmc.umn.edu/projects/gustafson/"><strong>Blogs and Wikis: Welcome Disruptions in the Classroom</strong></a>, Tim Gustafson used blogs and wikis to support writing and collaboration in his class.</p>

<p><strong><a href="http://dmc.umn.edu/projects/trites/index.shtml">Both Students and Instructors Benefit from Educational Podcasting</a></strong>. Public speaking instructor Jill Trites discovered that podcasts helped her students become better speakers and helped her become a better teacher. <br />
<strong></p>

<p><a href="http://dmc.umn.edu/projects/sykes/index.shtml">Croquelandia: The Next Best Thing to Being There</a></strong> Spanish instructor Julie Sykes developed an immersive language learning experience that is grounded in gaming theory.</p>

<p><a href="http://dmc.umn.edu/projects/arnold/index.shtml<strong>">Making the  Most of a Mathematical Moment: “Möbius Transformations Revealed.</strong></a> Mathematics professors Douglas Arnold and Jonathan Rogness' YouTube video got over a million hits and showed people the beauty of mathematics. </p>

<p><strong><a href="http://dmc.umn.edu/projects/becker/">Wikis and the Writing Intensive Classroom</a></strong> Assistant Professor Dennis Becker from the Department of Forest Resources introduced a wiki in his Natural Resource and Environmental Policy class, which is designated writing intensive, to support student writing.</p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p><a href="http://blog.lib.umn.edu/" target="_blank">UThink</a>, &quot;the largest academic blogging tool in North America,&quot; is maintained by the University Libraries and enables University instructors, students and staff to create, contribute to and view blogs. The purpose of this exercise is to discover some educational uses of blogs through an exploration of UThink. </p>

<p><strong>Assignment</strong></p>

<p>1. To go to UThink, <a href="http://blog.lib.umn.edu/" target="_blank">follow this link</a> (page will open up in another tab or window).</p>

<p>Two suggested ways to explore UThink blogs: 1) On the front page in the middle you'll see &quot;Recent Entries on UThink.&quot; Click on any link to see the entry and its blog. For a preview of the entry, scroll over the entry title 2) Search UThink using the keyword of your choice (upper right corner)</p>

<p>2. Take a few minutes to peruse the blog. Take note of entries, comments, layout, blogrolls and categories. <br />
3. Post a comment to <strong>this</strong> entry, including the URL of blog you read and a few words about what it is. (Click "comments" underneath this entry, in the lower right corner.)<br />
4. Be prepared to discuss with the group any comments you have about educational uses of blogs based on your observations, or any questions you have about educational uses of blogs.<br />
