Kuhr+Lyon+drawing

This was the first time I had ever been inside the Katherine Nash Gallery and I was actually very impressed. I found the gallery much more impressive than the Weisman and wonder why I have not paid a visit to this gallery before. The exhibit featured an array of both artists and style. The piece that struck me first was Edgar Alwin Payne's "California Foothills". It was a simple landscape sketch done with graphite and a sheet of small paper. I felt that many of the sketches in the gallery were overdone and too detailed, however, Payne really captured the essence of his landscape and with great simplicity. Besides Payne, there were a few works across the back wall that I liked. The artist was unknown for all of them but they featured outdoor scenes with people. "Sketch of a Fete Galante" had a really dark, gloomy look about it, which I liked. I'm glad I spent some time in this gallery and look forward to the next time I visit it.
