general info for the class

these are note from Dean-

Studio at 44 West 28th Street

Access to the studio is 24 hr with a doorman Monday thru Friday -- no doorman on weekends -- guests must be met at street level on Saturday and Sunday to be let in.

DO NOT let in unfamiliar people on the weekends when receiving your guests.

There will be 24 hour access on June 8th for clean up after the opening.
There are 22 studio spaces, each are 6x8, a full kitchen and the entire space is Wi Fi -- there is also a crit room that is 15x20.

For the purpose of the invitation -- the space is on the 7th floor. John Silva (Director of the NYCAM space) says that the space has a lot of windows and is very nice and that here’s a view of the Empire State building to the northeast.

John also says the space is secure but to use common sense and not leave items in plain view. We might want to reserve judgement on that during the 1st week when Brooklyn College is in the Gallery and sharing a common bathroom.

There is no woodshop access -- due to liability issues -- this was stipulated by UMN and by Bethel College who operate the space.
There is one video projector for our use.
Computer/digital facility access is not included in our rental agreement.

If we work collaboratively, we can easily bring 30+ tools to obviate the need to buy tools we already own. There will be no tools for our use in the studio space.

Check with your airline to see what the weight/and carry on limits are to avoid an upcharge.
Packages can not be received until we take possession of the space on 5/21/07 -- be aware that receipt of packages is much more complicated in NYC than in any other US city -- think of it as a European shipping experience -- and note the rules sent by John Silva regarding the freight elevator.

Be prepared to set aside an entire day to receive your package -- or -- have it held for pickup if the shipper has location nearby and move it by cab.

We have responsibility for trash in the studio space and and need to follow the rules.
John Sivis would like to meet with us on Tuesday the 22nd -- to welcome us to the space -- this should be possible between Tuesday’s appointments as the studio is lo-cated between the a.m. and p.m. appointments.
