Placement Gallery Response

Looking at the Placement Gallery exhibit, “Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I felt uncomfortable and a bit anxious at times. Some of these images, to me, seemed disturbing and even a bit upsetting. A few of them reminded me of scenes from horror movies, while others just gave me the sense of an uncomfortable atmosphere. Every single piece of artwork I looked at seemed to have a negative connotation tied to it. I tried to imagine myself having one of these pieces hanging up in my room, and then I realized I would probably have nightmares and feel like my room was haunted or something. I especially find the work by John Fleischer to be most emotional. His series of distorted faces is unpleasant to look at and does not give me that good feeling that a lot of artwork does. I admire the artists’ creativity, however, I am not a fan of the negative vibe I feel when viewing them.
