Graduate Student Appreciation Week will be from April 2-6. Check out some of the great events we are hosting:

This year we're putting on three events to show our appreciation for graduate students and give you a chance to meet people from other departments and our executive committee. We're also doing a couple of meet and greets for those of you who are interested in becoming involved in COGS.

TEDXUMN Registration

TEDxUMN will be occurring April 21st from 8am to 5pm. Registration opens on March 26th at 11am. First come, first serve ticket sales will go quickly.

Tickets go on sale March 26th at 11:00am at Limited seating will sell quickly; therefore, we have included a few registration questions on the website for your preparation.

The U is hosting an event on addressing bullying behavior in the workplace next Tuesday March 6 in the McNamara Alumni Center. This is an issue that affects a lot of graduate students, hopefully some of you can attend!

How to Write a Great Scientific Research Paper, and Get it Accepted by a Good Journal

Knowing the best way to structure your scientific paper, identifying the most appropriate journal, and understanding the peer review process are critical to getting your work published. This workshop will focus on steps to take before writing a paper; developing and submitting a manuscript; what editors and publishers are looking for; and dealing with referee comments. Sensitive areas such as publishing ethics, plagiarism, and duplicate publishing will also addressed.

Anthony Newman is a Publisher with Elsevier, based in Amsterdam. Currently responsible for several applied biochemistry journals, he joined Elsevier 25 years ago and has been Publisher for the last 12 years. Before then he was the marketing communications manager for the biochemistry journals of Elsevier. By training he is a polymer chemist and was active in industry before leaving London and moving to Amsterdam to join Elsevier.

Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat

International Student Scholar Services (ISSS) is currently looking for international and U.S. graduate students to apply for the Cross-Cultural Leadership Retreat.

WHEN: Saturday, March 24, 9 am - 5 pm
PLACE: 101 University International Center, East Bank,

This retreat is for both international and U.S. graduate students who want to become more effective in international environments. (The retreat will be offered to undergraduate students during the Fall 2012 semester). This interactive, high-energy event becomes a living laboratory of what it takes to work with people from different cultures. Participants start friendships with people from all over the world and discover their own leadership potential. A cutting edge cross-cultural leadership model, Personal Leadership, will be used to develop participants' cross cultural skill-set that is needed for professional and personal lives in the 21st century.
