A Moscow police captain was arrested after accepting a $40,000 bribe in a recent crackdown on police corruption, the New York Times reported.
The captain, who was not identified, was arrested after accepting bribes from a car salesman to ignore legal infractions.
A statement, from Moscow police, said that the captain's superiors would also be punished.
The captain was a member of the Interior Ministry, RAPSI News reported.
The crackdown on corruption came after an incident in March where a man died after being sodomized by police.
