Timothy Bakdash was sentenced to 40 years in jail Monday after a Hennepin County Court found him guilty of second-degree murder, KARE 11 reported.
Bakdash was driving down the wrong side of the road in Dinkytown last April when he hit and killed Benjamin Van Handel.
Bakdash was high and drunk from a night of partying at bars in Dinkytown when he got into an argument with a group of people in the Library bar.
After the argument, Bakdash got into his car and drove into a group of pedestrians, injuring two women and killing Van Handel.
Mike Freeman, a Hennepin County Attorney, originally believed that Bakdash would receive about 25 years in prison for the murder of Van Handel.
Bakdash says that he does not remember hitting the group of pedestrians and has expressed remorse to the Van Handel family.
