yinz should read this Picksburgh article

If you follow the NFL or do not live under a rock (criteria I usually do not satisfy), then you will know that the Steelers have had an exceptional season and are favorites in the playoffs. This prompts any and every major news outlet to write stories not just on the team, but on the city of Pittsburgh. Here's one I just saw today in the Times: Pittsburgh: A Big Happy Company Town

For those who don't know me or read this blog frequently: I go to grad school at Pitt, and live in the city (otherwise it seems pretty random to put up a story about Pittsburgh)

My freshman year roommate was from Pittsburgh. I can still remember the song I heard constantly at this time 9 years ago: "Here we go, Steelers, here we go, Pittsburgh's goin' to the Super Bowl, Here we go..." And his mom would send him this enormous box filled with Steelers merchandise. Not being a football fan myself, this amused me. I did, however, develop an inexplicable taste for the IC beer his mom also included in her care packages.

You know, I have never heard a Steelers song, and haven't really encounter Iron City beer. And I've never seen anyone with the degree of fanaticism described in that article. I think it's because i'm in the University area though.

The first game is tomrrow, I think, which should be interesting since it will be turning cold and windy here...
