it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood
Good morning all. I noticed that the blog has gone completely blank. I feel obligated to fill it with something.
The weather is remarkable this weekend. At 10:00 the radio lady said it was only 67 downtown. Sixty-seven! It makes me think autumn is coming. It's too early. But it still feels like that, and makes the coming academic year seem only more imminent. It makes me feel like I should go out and buy a new box of crayons and a ruler and a pencil box.
I have a new neighbor in the next door apartment. The entrances to the two apartments here, mine and the one next door, are crammed into a corner such that the door way to one is at a right angle to mine. That way every time my current neighbor is standing outside his/her door, fumbling with the keys or whatever, it sounds like they might as well be standing right inside my apartment, they're so close to my own door. And sound travels so easily through those doors that they can probably hear whatever it is I am doing. So I'm always very conscious of the neighbor's existence here. But I haven't met this one yet or even seen what she looks like. I think it is a single female. I think she plays the cello. Also one day she had candles burning in little goblets on her windowsill, and it sounded like she was listening to a videotaped yoga instructor. So, this woman has already out-classed me and I've observed her dwellings for only about a week now. As for me, I sit here at my laptop and work on research projects of dubious merit, and listen to mind-numbing amounts of NPR.

Oh yea! There you are! I found the blank page too! I had an emergency blog all ready this morning--panic, panic. Let me know if you ever need it in the future.
Oh, I do remember school supplies--the thrill of the school year--indeed perhaps the highlight! It's cooler in Southern Illinois today too--but not yet Fall-like. But get this, school starts here Thursday! How ungodly early. It'll be hot until the last of September. Some of the classrooms, including the one I *used to* teach in, still aren't air-conditioned.
My Fall Semester at the college doesn't start until a week from Monday, and it is air conditioned there--thank goodness.
So you think yoga, a cello, and candles in the window out-class you?? Never. You do yoga--sort of. Do one of your famous inversions against the wall! Hey, and don't forget the wonderful plants staked up with character on your windowsill, and your fabulous tinted upper panes. We'll just get your old baritone, and you two will be a pair!
