At Least 61 Injured From Car Bombs in India
Car bombs killed 61 people and injured 300 more in northeast India Thursday, USA Today reported. The bombs targeted crowded markets and government buildings, such as courts and police stations, witnesses said as reported by the New York Times.
The attacks, among the bloodiest in recent months, left streets littered with bodies and the wreckage of cars and motorcycles, according to witnesses and photographers at the scene, USA Today reported.
Officials blamed the largest separatist group, the United Liberation Front of Asom, for the blasts. "The needle of suspicion is on ULFA," said Assam government spokesman Himanta Biswa Sharma according to the New York Times.
