Today began normally, but when I got down to the basement to begin pickup, it quickly became apparent that something was amiss. What appeared initially to be a case of spilled coffee in the periodicals room was actually brownish water that had fallen from the ceiling and begun pooling on the tables and floor. Fortunately, it had neither dripped onto any computers nor directly threatened any books.
I alerted Charles, who in turn alerted Facilities. I then put garbage cans in the ongoing drip zones and mopped up any standing water using paper towels borrowed from the ILL office. The two major areas were (1) near the 'Js' and (2) near the 'Ss'. I surveyed the rest of the room to see whether there were any other water issues, and didn't see anything else.
