It was pretty quiet today, as usual.  Jamie was a few minutes late, but otherwise did just fine with book return.  Pick-up was completed in the first hour.  Not to sound like a gossip, but did you know that one of the microfilm readers was moved from the little hidey-hole into the newspaper room.  Now there are two working readers in the newspaper room.

Laptop shelf-reading went well.  I was unable to finish the SRN in the first hour; I continued instead of shelf-reading until my break.  At that time the laptop actually died.  I put it in Jessica's flipper for recharging.  I also asked Jeff to finish the SRN during the last hour, as I was scheduled at the circ desk for the remaining time.

Otherwise, the get-it returns have been processed and few patrons have come to the desk.

Side note:  Before opening today, I answered the circulation desk phone.  I was thinking that it might have been a fellow worker calling in to say they would be late.  It was a patron, who was not pleased that her book had been recalled.  Apparently, she needed it for a speech she will be giving on Thursday.  She was very upset, because she had been told she would have the item until the 30th.  I explained the policy on recalls and informed her that the fines are more than those for 'normal' overdue items.  I would have given her the actual prices, but the computers had not been powered up yet.  After I patiently explained that there was nothing I could do about the situation and that the item would still be due today; she grumbled a bit more, stating how unfair it was and that she still needed the item. Finally, she thanked me and hung up.  In the future perhaps we should remind patrons that their items may be subject to recall.
