Well, a few interesting things have occurred so far today:

Matt forgot his envelope of passwords on his desk, and as it is a twenty-minute walk I couldn't really have him go home and pick it up.  I asked Charles, and he and I both thought that because I was training Matt it would be alright to let Matt use my password.  So, he got the training anyways, but despite an unusually large amount of books for a Sunday, there were no pop ups.  I mentioned a few of them and showed him the poster, fines bin, get requests shelf, and hold shelf.  I also told him to feel free to ask questions, which he probably will as the pop-ups start coming in.  I also told him about holds, and the difference between My Twin Cities Campus Office and Wilson Library requests.

During pickup, I found a piece of metal on the third floor. I placed it on Pat's desk, along with a note with more detailed information.

Then I started laptop shelf-reading.  What a mess!  There were a number of items that needed to be brought down for preservation.  Additionally, several items weren't in the database, and several were not in the SRN, for various reasons.  So, I brought a lot of things down, but because my pencil had broken, a number of them ended up not having notes.  I checked everything in Aleph and came up with a few oddities:
--1 item was not in the database, because it had been rebarcoded, but the new barcode had never been added to the system ( I found the item by browsing for it and confirmed the old barcode with the one that had been crossed out on the inside of the cover before changing the record)
--1 item had a call number that just didn't make sense, after confirming that it was the same in Aleph I put it on the remark shelf with a note explaining why it was there.
--1 item belonged in the annex; it found its way to the internal deliveries shelf
--2 items were withdrawn, but I am absolutely sure that I did not get any withdrawn pop-ups while I was shelf-reading so I was surprised.  They are both on the withdrawn shelf.
--Finally, another item which had quarto on the call #, was not listed as a quarto in Aleph, I put that on Jessica's shelf for SRN problems (it showed up as not in SRN)
--Also, it is taking longer than usual to complete the SRN, so I put the laptop in for charging while I worked out those problems and will begin again at 4:00 pm.  I changed the schedule to accommodate that.

Finally, the circ desk was surprisingly busy today:  a patron needed help with the printer in the reference room, another patron wanted to borrow the movie Black Gold (only available through Walter Library), another wanted to know which computers she could use (not a university student/employee), a few wanted to check things out, another needed to return a book, because he couldn't carry it home (but he wanted to make sure it would be available up in the stacks by tomorrow so that he could use it next week, unless someone else checked it out), one just wanted to tell me that I had a nice smile and he was moving to a smoke free building (a bit odd, but no one else needed help), and another wanted to know if Smart had peer tutoring today.  I got a few phone calls as well.  One was the usual, when are you closing.  The other needed to renew a book, which I did for him, and he was wondering why only his wife's name was on their mutual Friends of the Library card, and if I could change that for him.  I told him that I could not but that BPF might be able to.  So, he and his wife may come in to resolve that, or call.

Ha, that was just another call, someone wishing to remove the hold from his account by paying his fines. Then someone wanting the time on their public workstation access extended, and then another call asking when we close.
