Wednesday Night

Pretty slow night, lots to be shelved and lots of bindery work that kept us all pretty busy for the night. I'm a little disappointed I didn't see anyone in costumes or prank trick-or-treaters though :(. *sigh* C'est la vie, Happy Halloween!

So, I just think that you should all know: the computers were absolutely disgusting!  During the hour I had been assigned to clean the computers I was only able to complete the basement and the second floor; so rather than shelf-reading after my break I finished cleaning computers starting on third floor.  Okay, so it wasn't really the computers that were disgusting, although someone did decide to write on one of the towers, so I had to clean that off.  The real problem was the desks, and maybe the keyboards.  There were so many coffee rings!  And someone spilled a thick sticky substance all over one of the desks.  No joke that mess took a good 5-10 minutes to clean all by itself.  Plus, even the desks that looked clean left gray stains all over the wipes. Yuck!  Finally, a large number of the keyboards contained mass quantities of fingernails, food, and hair; which added to the mess on the desks after I shook the keyboards.  So, I'm wondering, can we get better signage about the availability of cleaning materials for spills.  Also can we start putting some paper towels in with the spray bottles so that patrons can wipe up their spills.  Or alternately, could we get some signs that say "please let staff know when spills occur."  Honestly, it doesn't really matter who cleans it, but it typically takes a lot less time to clean up a spill that hasn't yet had the opportunity to dry out than it takes to clean up a dried out spill.

Otherwise, my shift has been fairly uneventful.

Normal night here at Wilson! There was a lot of bindery work to be done, so I didn't get a chance to get to the print annual report project, but other than that it was pretty quiet.

Rather uneventful, but several microfilm questions came up. There was nothing to shelve all night, so we got a little creative finding things to do, but still managed to have a productive night.

Things were a bit shaky today, here at Wilson. Khou wasn't able to make it in at 10:00 this morning, and called to say she'd be here at 11:00. Pickup was pretty heavy in the periodical room, and we only made it to the 2nd floor by the end of the hour. I adjusted the schedule to accommodate the 3rd and 4th floors in the next hour.
Amanda was out sick, which left us pretty short staffed for the desks. During the 3:00-4:00 hour, there was no choice but to close the annex, since there were no desk students available.
I had been thinking of skipping my break at 2:00 in order to keep the annex open during that hour as well. After a bit of internal debate and a discussion with Lynn, we decided it was best to take my break and to close the annex from 2-4.
Other than that, things went smoothly. Shelving was taken care of, the government publications modules were completed, and it was relatively quiet.

I've never been taught how to change tasks on W2W, so I did my best by just changing the colors and adding tidbits in the "additional text" section.
If you have any questions about the schedule confusion, let me know!

Monday Night

Just a typical Monday night at Wilson! I was trained on how to re-reel microfilm so that was awesome, and I took sometime to practice the different steps. Overall it was a pretty slow night so other than practicing with the microfilm, I also got some progress done on the annual report project.

Just another lazy Sunday! Not much happening here, everything has been shelved, not too many patrons, etc.

Tonight was very busy at the basement desk. I had one patron who I worked with for about a half an hour on scanning some pages onto a FlashDrive. I had never been trained on this, but looked in the blue book for reference. I eventually got it, but feel more training is necessary. Mark also dealt with this during the hour before me. There were tons of history books left in Gov Pubs that Mark and Tessa were able to pick up, but there was not much time to shelve them afterwards. Due to the busy-ness, I did not get many Annual Reports documented.

Tessa also notified me that she did not know how to turn on the radio in the book return room.. a task that I think she should be trained on ASAP.
