OFFICE 2007 IS COMING!!

The newest release of Microsoft Office is available and has many great new features. However, some of these features are incompatible with previous versions of Office. As we migrate from one version to another, we want you to be aware of potential issues.

The default file format for Office 2007 is XML (Extensible Markup Language). People who do NOT have Office 2007 cannot open this file type unless they have downloaded a compatibility pack from Microsoft. As not all users have Office 2007 at this time, it is important to be aware of this compatibility issue.

WE MAKE THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS:

Faculty and Staff: Microsoft has a compatibility pack available to allow you to open Office 2007 files. You should download this file to ensure that you can open all Microsoft file types. Download Compatibility Pack Note: If you are unable to download this compatibility pack, please contact your IT support staff for assistance

Students: Students who have Office 2007 are advised to "save down" to Office 97-2003 versions to ensure that others can open their files. To do this, click the Office button in the upper-left corner of the application screen, select Save As, and in the Save as type field, specify the 97-2003 version for the application you are using. If desired, students can download a script to change the default "Save as" format to Office 97-2003 available here. Students who do not yet have Office 2007 are encouraged to download the compatibility pack so that they can open files from other students who do. Note: The Carlson School computer labs have both Office 2003 and 2007 installed.

Working in WebVista (WebCT) - WebVista is not yet compatible with Office 2007. Students submitting assignments via WebVista should save them to the Office 97-2003 versions.
