Women in Business Auction Raises More Than $10,000

About 200 Carlson School members and local professionals attended the auction to benefit Women's Advocates.

The recent fifth annual Women in Business (WIB) Charity Auction raised more than $10,000 to benefit Women's Advocates, a shelter for battered women and WIB's partner charity. About 200 Carlson School students, parents, staff, alumni, and local professionals attended the auction. The theme of this year's event, "Empowering Women: Strut With Soul," was selected to reflect how proceeds will help Women's Advocates members leave the program empowered and ready to start a fresh journey.

Held at TCF Bank stadium, the event featured a silent auction, live auction, fashion show, entertainment from Basses Wild, a University men's a cappella group, and a number of other activities. Attendees bid on items such as an iPad 2, Guthrie tickets, Twins box seats, a hockey stick signed by the Gophers men's hockey team, and a clothes package from Kohls.

This is the third year WIB has donated auction proceeds to Women's Advocates. After the first year of partnership, WIB recognized an opportunity to collaborate on a deeper level as Women's Advocates focuses on career preparation and placement for women.

"It was a natural fit," says Kate Hanson, WIB president. "In addition to proceeds from our auction, we have a committed WIB Cares Community Action Team that volunteers at the shelter at least once a month."

Women in Business is a student organization dedicated to bringing together business professionals and students of all majors to network and learn about pertinent topics within business.
