As projected at Smart Politics on Monday, the Democratic Party has taken back control of the Wisconsin Assembly, for the first time since 1992. Democrats appear to have picked up five seats (with 1st term Democrat Kim Hixon’s defense of his 43rd District still not called): Districts 2, 42, 57, 68, and 92.
Former Republican turned Independent Jeff Wood (District 67) won a very narrow race, by less than 200 votes, against Republican challenger Don Moga.
The balance of power, pending Hixon’s District, will be 52 Democrats, 46 Republicans, and 1 Independent.
In 2002, Jim Doyle won back the Governorship for the Democratic Party. Democrats regained control of the State Senate in 2006.
