Minnesota's Most Innovative Business Ideas Advance To Next Round in Competition

We are thrilled to announce the 57 teams of entrepreneurs, inventors and innovators advancing to the second round of the 2013 competition. Almost 1,100 Minnesotans entered the ninth annual Minnesota Cup, a statewide contest designed to accelerate the development of innovative business ideas. Semifinalists in six categories will now compete for their share of $200,000 and the chance to bring their entrepreneurial vision to life.

Competition entries were chosen from a wide range of businesses, entrepreneurs and inventors who entered in the following divisions:

  • Energy/Clean Tech
  • General
  • High Tech
  • Life Science/Health IT
  • Social Entrepreneur
  • Student

Competitors were able to enter individually or as a group of up to four, and those in the semifinal round will now have the opportunity to advance business ideas, gain exposure, learn about resources available to entrepreneurs, be paired with mentors, meet members of the Cup's review board -- and win cash prizes if their idea is judged to be among the best entries.

The 2013 class of semifinalists will be honored on June 19 at a reception at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management by contest organizers, including Minnesota Cup co-founders Scott Litman and Dan Mallin, review board members, mentors, sponsors and supporters; as well as past Minnesota Cup finalists and winners.
