After losing all four limbs in the Iraq War, 26-year-old veteran Brendan Marrocco attended a news conference Tuesday after his double-arm transplant surgery last month, according to NBCNews.
Al Jazeera reports Marrocco said at the news conference, "I feel like I'm getting a second chance to start over."
Marrocco lost all four limbs after a roadside bomb attack in Iraq on Easter Sunday 2009, according to The Telegraph.
Marrocco's operation lasted 13 hours, according to NBCNews and involved 16 doctors at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Marrocco is one of only seven people in the United States who have received successful double-arm transplant surgeries, according to NBCNews.
Head surgeon of Marrocco's team, Dr. WP Andrew Lee said that it will take a few years before Marrocco will regain significant use of his arms, according to Al Jazeera.
