Upcoming article on design and gravity-like fields

There will be an upcoming special edition of the Journal of Space Exploration (JSE) entitled "Journal of Space Exploration on Spaceflight Perspectives from Novel Concepts of Spacetime, Gravitation, and Symmetries". It is being orchestrated by Dr.rer. nat. Jochem Hauser, Professor(em) HPC, Campus Suderburg, Ostfalia University.

There will be seven papers including one I authored entitled, "Terrestrial and space applications of gravity-like fields: a designer's perspective". It highlights topics presented in my book Gravity 2.0 and includes additional information on recent advances in LENR for powering gravity-like field generators.

It is due out in July of this year.

Update on Steorn, LENR and gMOD

A few weeks ago Steorn's HephaHeat site threw up a construction sign as they get ready for a new phase. HephaHeat is a line of inline water heaters employing inductive heat and developed by the Irish engineering firm . The HephaHeat technology is purportedly based upon Steorn's Orbo technology. See 2012 blog entries from Aug 3 and July 20.

CEO Shaun McCarthy recently mentioned in a forum that the coming weeks would be very interesting. Of course, Steorn's Orbo-tech was mentioned in my book Gravity 2.0 as one of two possible avenues for providing continuous power for gravity-like field generators, the other being LENR (low [lattice] energy nuclear reactions). Steorn has backed off on its claims of a coefficient of power (COP) greater than 1 (more energy out than in) as it began developing HephaHeat.

Physicist Brian Ahern, mentioned in those previously cited blog entries, gave a presentation at the recent 2014 CF/LANR Colloquium at MIT on cold fusion (LENR).

Ahern's presentation, "Nanomagnetism for Energy Production", proposes that nano-magnetism is perhaps the underlying basis of LENR. He has suggested that asymmetric magnetism within magnetic nanomaterials particles of 5-10nm underlies the effect of LENR due to the manner in which particles contained within a metal lattice oscillate, nanonickel being one of the more recent materials of choice in LENR research.

Asymmetric magnetism has been stated by Steorn as the basis of Orbo, and therefore HephaHeat. Seemingly, the connections between LENR and HephaHeat draw closer. This is important because although the granting of patents for LENR may have been proceeding in Europe and Japan, the US patent office does not grant patents for LENR (ie. cold fusion). However, Steorn has been granted patents in the US for its Orbo magnetic technology.

It is occasionally nice to back a winner.

It has been too long since my most recent post in this blog, but a research paper caught my attention... and apparently that of Forbes.

My book Gravity 2.0 primary discusses social and design implications if gravity modification is achieved here on earth, though I do have one chapter devoted to what it means for near orbit technology and for deep space exploration. Both of the space venues would require new power technologies to produce sufficient specific energies to power craft to the stars and back over a period of years (not centuries).

In my book I mention two potential sources, one being Andrea Rossi's E-Cat reactor employing Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR), otherwise known as cold fusion. That was in March 2011.

Yesterday a team of researchers from Bologna University in Italy and Uppsala University in Sweden reported in Cornell's pre-publication physics archive arXiv.org that Rossi's latest iteration of his reactor does indeed produce anomalous heat, "that is one order of magnitude higher than any conventional source." That is, with the most conservative of figures and assumptions, the heat produced is at least ten times higher than that of any chemically energetic reaction known.

The devices tested contained nickel powder plus unknown additives pressurized with hydrogen gas. When the container was heated, substantial heat was produced in excess of the input heat. Initial heat was provided by spiral resistor coils powered from an outside source. "In the ON/OFF phase, the resistor coils were powered up and powered down by the control system at regular intervals of about two minutes for the ON state and four minutes for the OFF state. This operating mode was kept more or less unchanged for all the remaining hours of the test." Rossi has mentioned on several occasions tests of versions of the device that use the excess energy from the device itself once initial operating temperatures are reached. In essence, it becomes self-sustaining.

The report has already been mentioned in Forbes, and its author, Mark Gibbs, concludes his story, "While a few commentators have raised criticisms concerning how the measurements were made and sources of error others have argued that the energy produced is so significant even knocking off an order of magnitude on either axis still portrays a process with insanely valuable output. This is not, of course, the last word or even one anywhere near the end of this story but unless this is one of the most elaborate hoaxes in scientific history it looks like the world may well be about to change. How quick will depend solely on Rossi".

As for Extended Heim Theory, the theoretical basis for gravity modification, additional publications are being prepared. Prof. J. Hauser presented the peer reviewed paper entitled On the Reality Gravity-Like Fields at the 48th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 29 July - 1 August 2012, Atlanta, GA, published by the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics. Any breakthrough in propulsion or energy generation, in order to become a real game changer, needs to be functioning without fuel. This insight is not new, and was already discussed in the book on space propulsion by Corliss, 1960, termed field propulsion, and was actively researched in industry and academia at that time, however, without success.

At present NASA no longer has a manned spaceflight program, but there is a group of adventurous space entrepreneurs who have a keen vision of technology, and, having founded their own companies, are determined to bring man into space at relatively low cost. The only technology currently available results from the physics of classical momentum conservation, as expressed by Tsiolkovsky's rocket equation of 1904, that cannot be overcome by technical refinement.

In order to succeed, the space entrepreneurs need to complement their vision of technology with the appropriate vision of science. A novel physical principle for spaceflight as well as energy generation is needed first, then everything else will fall into place, i.e. the proper technology will follow from this principle. The technology must be feasible, which means that no unrealistic concepts like antimatter, negative energy (wormholes), or spacetime warping etc. should be involved.

What could this new physical principle be? Evidently, it has to do with both gravitation and spacetime. This paper therefore discusses the reality of the existence of novel gravity-like fields, not being produced by large static or moving masses. Both experimental and theoretical concepts are presented. To this end, a set of recent eleven experiments was identified that, in some way or another, contradict established physical theories. In addition, the basic concepts of a theoretical approach are presented, termed Extended Heim Theory (EHT), that predicts six fundamental forces, three of them of gravitational origin, including the existence of an interaction between electromagnetism and gravitation.

LENR for Aircraft

Though the Swiss effort to power vehicles through applying LENR technology (see blog "First Research for Powering Vehicles with LENR" on July 14) was impressive in it's aggressive timeline approach, other researchers are intent on studying the long-range application of LENR to aircraft.

There is a May 2012 NASA study (NASA/CR-2012-217556) entitled "Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research, PhaseII: N+4 Advanced Concept Development" which looks to LENR as a potential ultra-green power source for subsonic aircraft. Not gravity vehicles, but a step toward validating LENR as a power source for flying craft.

In the Boeing Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research (SUGAR) Phase I study, Boeing identified and analyzed advanced concepts and technologies for aircraft that would fly in the 2030-2035 timeframe. One of the recommendations from that study was to conduct a follow-on study to consider the synergistic benefits of methane and/or hydrogen fuel.

This Phase II study covers advanced technology potentials in the 2040 - 2050 timeframe and includes consideration of LENR technology. In this study the SUGAR Team has assumed, for the purposes of technology planning and establishing system requirements, that the LENR technology will work. They have not conducted an independent technology feasibility assessment on LENR, but the technology plan contained identifies the steps that would need to take place to develop a propulsion system for aviation that utilizes LENR technology.

The group identified that the LENR concept could have tremendous benefits, though the technical risks are extremely high. All of the conceptual power alternatives were ranked on the basis of energy output, global emissions, LTO emissions, noise, cost and technology maturity risk. The final score of LENR, including technology risk, had the highest payoff, but also an associated high risk.

The study forecast that traditional fuel burn and emissions will be reduced or eliminated by using LENR energy. Also, noise may be reduced by using LENR heat instead of combustion in the engines.

The primary conversion of LENR-produced heat to power is suggested to be turbine fans and alternate heat engines such as those employing Sterling, Diesel, Wankel, Otto, and Brayton cycles. They do not consider the use of direct conversion to electrical energy using thermoelectric converters as has the Swiss automotive team.

Prof. J. Hauser has made available on his site a comprehensive lecture series on the

As mentioned on July 14 in this blog, on June 19 of this year, Prof. J. Hauser gave an invited lecture at the Technical Univ. of Braunschweig entitled, "Emerging Physics of Space Propulsion and Energy Generation." A shortened version of his presentation materials can be downloaded for free here.

In the Braunschweig slide materials Prof. Hauser thanks me for a copy of my March 2011 book Gravity 2.0. Actually it is I who should be thanking Prof. Hauser (and did so in my book's dedication) for his participation in reviewing my book for accuracy, as did Prof. M. Tajmar.

In the aforementioned slides Prof. Hauser refers to me as Professor Gregory Daigle, University of Minnesota. Just for the record, I am currently adjunct faculty in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota, but was formerly an Associate Professor at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Hence the design focus of my book.

Steorn In €50 Million A Year HephaHeat Bonanza

On July 20 I mentioned in this blog that physicist Brian Ahern had proposed asymmetric magnetism as the basis for LENR. Steorn, an engineering firm in Dublin, had previously claimed that its Orbo power generation technology operated through the application of asymmetric magnetism. The Sunday Times Ireland's business section recently contained a surprising new article on intellectual property development firm Steorn.

As reported in truthfall.com, "Their HephaHeat hot water boiling technology looks certain to reinvigorate the company's finances with two multinational companies seeking to incorporate HephaHeat into consumer and commercial products netting Steorn royalties of around €50 Million per annum by 2017."
 Sunday Times Ireland reported...

"The Dublin technology company that claimed it could produce energy from nothing says that it has signed collaboration agreements with two large multinational manufacturers writes Tim Madigan."

The agreements cover the design work  required to incorporate Steorn's HephaHeat technology into products that use steam and hot water.
This development marks the first time consumer product manufacturers have considered using HephaHeat in their designs.
Steorn courted controversy by placing an advert in the Economist in 2006 inviting scientists to inspect its Orbo technology, which it claimed produced "free, clean and constant energy".
A two-year verification process overseen by a scientific jury concluded that Steorn has "not shown any evidence of energy production".
The manufacturers, more convinced of the technology's potential, are keen to enter into a design phase with the company.
HephaHeat is the tradename for Orbo in heating applications.
Steorn has raised 19 million Euros from investors to date according to Sean McCarthy, Steorn's chief executive.  Recently filed accounts show accumulated losses had reached 17.2m by the end of 2010.
If manufacturers include HephaHeat in their products, a license agreement is envisaged which would provide a royalty fee for each product sold.
HephaHeat technology is designed for electric water-heating products aimed at the domestic and commercial water-heating industry.
McCarthy claims that royalty fees from these agreements could be bringing in up to 50 million a year by 2017 if these deals progress beyond the design stage."

Steorn will provide E-Cat, Defkalion and other LENR manufacturing firms with competition from their technology which may also employ LENR, but by another name.

On the Reality of Gravity-Like Fields

This evening Dr. Hauser gave his talk at the AIAA (The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) 48th Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit in Atlanta. The AIAA is the world's largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession.

Dr. Hauser's topic for presentation was his new paper, "On the Reality of Gravity-Like Fields", which continues his work and that of Dr. Droescher on Extended Heim Theory. This particular presentation made a bold effort to explain how EHT can be a theoretical model for MOND (Modified Newtonian Dynamics) by employing EHT's prediction of 2 additional fundamental interactions related to gravitation.

He begins by reviewing a set of eleven experiments and/or astrophysical observations. He believes they clearly provide substantial evidence for novel physical concepts to exist that are outside relativity and which require novel types of fields beyond the standard model. He also provides a critique of Dr. Tajmar's most recent experimental studies that produced null results, saying that the difficulty seems to be with the noise level of the gyroscope and lack of maintaining a sufficiently low ambient temperature field rather than the non-existence of gravitomagnetic fields.

This non-mathematical paper describes how gravitophotons and quintessence particles and their antiparticles can account for the presence of dark matter in the galactic halo and the measurement known as "MOND acceleration." By solving for the gravitational accelerations for visible and dark matter inside a galaxy (which are shown to be different), Dr. Hauser obtains the formula for the well known MOND relation and from it derives the correct equation for the orbital speed of stars at a distance large enough from the center of the galaxy.

MOND predictions of galaxy rotation have been the most accurate, producing results notably more accurate than models of dark matter. Lee Smolin and co-workers have tried unsuccessfully to obtain a theoretical basis for MOND from quantum gravity. Smolin's conclusion is "MOND is a tantalizing mystery, but not one that can be resolved now." That may change with this presentation by Dr. Hauser.

This breakthrough provides a theoretical basis for the well known observations of dark matter and dark energy that defy standard interpretations of GR and SR, and explains them through interactions of new particles predicted by EHT and the poly-metric tensor approach originally conceived in the 1950s by Burkhard Heim. A more quantitative paper would solidify the propositions in this new direction and we hope that such a paper is already in the works.

This new direction for EHT can not be emphasized enough. EHT now describes a common underlying basis for both the smallest scale interactions of subatomic particles and predictions for the largest scale interactions of dark energy and dark matter on a universe-wide scale.

Dr. Hauser concludes with the prediction of gravity-like fields that might be generated in the laboratory and may serve as the physical basis for establishing a completely novel technology field, termed gravitational engineering. And by inference, "gravity design", the design discipline described in my book.

New chapter by Hauser and Droescher

Gravity-Superconductors Interactions: Theory and Experiment
(Eds. Giovanni Modanese, Univ. of Bozen, Italy and G. A. Robertson, Institute for Advanced Research in the Space, U.S.A.) was published by Bentham Science Publishers (www.benthamscience.com).

In Chap. 11, pp. 269-319, entitled: Emerging Physics for Gravity-like Fields, W. Droescher and J. H. Hauser present both experimental and theoretical evidence for gravitational engineering that is, the generation of laboratory generated gravitational fields. Extreme gravitomagnetic fields might be generated through a phase transition at cryogenic temperatures, triggering the conversion of electromagnetic into gravitomagnetic potentials. The physical model for this process is presented and the technology ensuing from this novel physical interaction with regard to propellantless propulsion, direct energy generation, and transportation in general is discussed.

In the foreword, written by J. H. Hauser, the publisher has decided, without further consultation, to change the name of Wernher von Braun into Werner von Braun, obviously being unaware that Wernher is the correct first name of Prof. von Braun. How commercial is LENR?

Since I've broached the topic of LENR, the question now is "How commercially viable is LENR?" In part, that has been address in Tyler van Houweligne's slideshow, "Is Commercial Low Energy Nuclear Reachtion (LENR) the Real Deal?" available here: http://www.slideshare.net/tylervan/lenr

It is a well considered compilation of research and opinions, and though the tone may be influenced toward the affirmative by the author, the sources cited appear both legitimate and accurate according to several sources. However, this is not the final word and widely published research confirmations are still required.

Second option for powering gMOD

"This short comment by Brian Ahern, CTO of Vibronic Energy, was posted on Peter Gluck's Ergo Out web site today.

I am announcing the nanonickel breakthrough at the New Energy Symposium in NYC on Wednesday. I am saying the energy is real, repeatable and of useful output. I will also state that it is not of nuclear origin. I will say that it is a manifestation of asymmetric magnetism. This explains the lack of radiation accompanying my 21 watts of thermal excess power. Defkalion is getting even better results and others around the world are as well.

The energy landscape is going to change in a viral manner.

The New Energy Symposium is being held at 7 World Trade Center from July 17-19th, and Vibronic Energy Technologies is listed as one of the presenters there. Ahern has been working in the nickel-hydrogen reaction field for some time now, but neither he, or any other researcher in that field as far as I know has mentioned that the Ni-H reaction is a product of 'asymmetric magnetism'. That sounds like something that would come from Steorn, rather than people working on LENR. Very curious."

Steorn has a rather mixed reputation after a very high profile claim of an excess production of energy through subtle manipulation of asymmetric magnetism, and then switching to a very low profile as they develop their HephaHeat spinoff product.

In my book I had suggested that gravityships and other uses of gMOD might be continually powered either through LENR or through application of Steorn's research in asymmetric magnetism to providing high energy outputs after an initial input of energy... very similar to LENR.

Many thousands of hours under four years of NDAs were spent by myself and dozens of outside engineers to study the "Steorn Effect" using solid and nanonickel alloys, but key elements to a successful replication were always out of reach. Now Ahern (PhD in Materials Science from MIT, consultant to the USAF and formerly of Ames National Laboratory) is similarly announcing energy production from asymmetric magnetism. In NextBigFuture on Nov 18 of last year, it was reported that Ahern explained his findings to Akito Takahashi working to replicate the LENR experiments of Yashiaki Arata in early 2009 and he (Takahashi) succeeded immediately.

As NextBigFuture reported,
"Ahern has been funded for 2.5 years to replicate Arata and then push on towards Piantelli. Ahern has also been guiding George Miley's group at UIUC on this nanotechnology, and the group seems to be enjoying a great deal of success in the month on October.

It also appears that the phenomenon may account for and explains a persistent mystery regarding the unification of physics.

Ahern states "In the last 8 weeks I have been astounded by a superior nanotechnology that will capture the imagination of even the greatest foes of LENR. I believe all of LENR is just a new and unanticipated form of nanomagnetism."

First Research for Powering Vehicles with LENR

In my book "Gravity 2.0" I addressed the importance of employing uninterruptible and long lasting power sources for long-duration gravity vehicles, floating buildings and interstellar space craft.

I stated at that time (March 2011) that the U.S. Navy, and professors Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi of the University of Bologna among others were testing LENR (low energy nuclear reaction) reactors. LENR is the current generation of what used to be called "cold fusion." Though 1MW power plants are currently being tested in Florida using this technology, to date there had not been an effort to employ this new technology for powering vehicles... but that has now changed.

As reported in E-Cat World, LENR Cars is a site that has recently appeared with the stated goal of "developing a zero emission car, self sustained in terms of energy for at least 40,000 km." The project is headed by entrepreneur and engineer Nicolas Chauvin who is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Their cars will be powered with nickel-hydrogen LENR reactors.

According to the site, the preference is to use Defkalion GT's 45kW Hyperion reactor as the basis for the LENR powered cells they hope to develop. Defkalion is a Greek firm leading industrial applications of LENR. EHT and the Higgs

The Higgs boson has been in the news lately. Its detection (or at least the detection of a particle very similar to a singular Higgs) has been claimed by CERN. But as reported in various scientific publications, further analysis of the data from particle physicists at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois suggests that CERN is just about as likely to have found evidence for more exotic varieties of the Higgs particle, called Higgs doublets or Higgs triplets. These "impostor" Higgs particles are part of a non-Standard Model interpretation of the Higgs concept, where several different Higgs-type particles (instead of just one) are together responsible for the Higgs field. In fact, a popular theory known as supersymmetry predicts at least five Higgs particles, and others predict many more.

What does Extended Heim Theory say of the Higgs? Here are snippets from various articles authored by Hauser and Droescher.

The 6 generators of O(2, q) for subspace S2 give rise to 6 Higgs fields (bosons) through which fermions are coming into existence (mass and charge). Six Higgs fields should exist, whose lightest particle mass should have, according to considerations from EHT, a mass of 182.7 ± 0.7 GeV.

The 6 anti-Higgs bosons of O(2,q) from subspace I2 procure mass and charge, including imaginary mass for the particles representing non-ordinary matter. In total there should exist twelve Higgs fields (two O(2,q) groups) that endow physical particles (fields) with their inherent charges.

It is assumed that the current of the superconducting electrons (Cooper pairs) causes a current of imaginary electrons. Imaginary particles are formed via the Higgs mechanism, for instance, as described by Kaku (Kaku, M.: Quantum Field Theory, Oxford, 1993).

Because of the twelve Higgs fields, 12 charges are proposed; four of them should be of gravitational nature. And that's what is proposed in EHT, gravitophotons v0gp-, v0gp+, v0g, and v0q.
