Mary Vogel (Center for Changing Landscapes) and her colleagues are creating an authoritative map of all of Minnesota's parks and trails -- state, regional, and local. Vogel tells Pioneer Press reporter Dennis Lien, the center is "creating a map that will show what is ion the ground, what has been planned, and what has been proposed. We will have a real handle on where we are with trails." The state legislature has authorized almost 2,600 miles of trails throughout the state, but only about half of those trails have been developed. Armed with Vogel's map, the state's Department of Natural Resources will be better able to recommend development priorities.
